1 He was born on the 24th of August the same day with other world leaders like King Alexander II of Scotland, King John I of Castile and William Wilberforce.

2 Chief MKO Abiola was the second person to earn the title Aare Ona Kakanfo after Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola which is one of the most revered titles in Yoruba land for it is the title of Field Marshall Generalissimo in which the holder should show bravado by bringing victory or dying in the field of war. He was also the first non-indigene to be so conferred with the title since he was from the Egba clan

3 It was until he clocked 15 that he was given the name Moshood, his first name ” Kashimawo’ which means ‘Let us wait and see’ because the 22 other children did not survive infancy

4 He showed entrepreneurial traits at a tender age starting a firewood business at the age of nine

5 He also was a musician early in his life at the age of 15 and at one time in his life he was known as the Pillar of Sports

6 Chief MKO Abiola and Chief Olusegun Obasanjo both attended the same school Baptist Boys High School and while Chief Abiola was the editor of the school magazine ‘The Trumpeter’ Chief Obasanjo was his deputy

7 Chief Moshood Kashimawo Abiola died on the 7th of July 1998 almost a month after the death of former military ruler and former friend turned foe, General Sani Abacha
