DAY ONE.
Question:why do catholics make images and icons of Jesus, Mary and others. Is it not written in the bible "thou shall not make unto thee any graven image nor any likeness of anything that is in heaven above or the earth beneath "Exodus 20.
It is true that every Catholic Church you enter, you must see statues of Jesus, Mary and some other saints around the church premises. most notably is that of Jesus and Mary that are kept besides the sanctuary.Does that not mean idolatry?
when King Solomon was building the temple (1 kings 6),he ordered that two statues of cherubim be made. wao to place it where?
in the temple, does it mean that Solomon is not aware of Exodus 20? no because even kings read the LAW (clef 2 kings 23:1-4, 21-25) which means Solomon knew the law.
"......and they (cherubim statues) were place in the innermost sanctuary (clef 1 kings 6:23-28) the words in bracket is for emphasis.
Where is the innermost sanctuary?
the innermost sanctuary is also called "the most holy place" or "the Holy of holies".it is a place where the covenant box is kept, no body enters that place except the HIGH PRIEST who even does so once a year on Yom Kippur(the day of atonement to offer sacrifice at the seat of mercy for the sins of the children of Israel).
having know how sacred this place is Solomon still placed images of cherubim there.
Did God Punish Solomon For This Act Of Negligence?
we all know that God was very happy with Solomon for building the temple (remember God saw the creatures). in the dream he met Solomon and asked him to ask any he would do. What does this show, happiness.
LESSON :the Catholic Church is not disobeying God. What God forbid is worshiping these images, which we don't do. Any one that does, does it to his own discretion not the church teachings.
Remember even the military make statues of fallen heroes and occasionally bow to them which don't mean worship but respect.
