Just when corps members thought camping couldn't get any worse; on the 5th of August, 2017, c. 11:50p.m., officers of the Nigeria Army and camp officials stormed the Obi of Issele-Uku hostel (male hostel), waking everybody up with their agitating "jump up" phrase.
They brought every member of the hostel out, told them to squat and walk (squat-walk) down to the parade ground (a little distance from the hostel). As if it wasn't enough, the occupants of the hostel were asked to lie down on the grass on their backs (facing up). They were still about to know what warranted the unprecedented attitude, when the occupants were then asked to remove their shirts and put their bare backs in the cold grass field (Meanwhile, the occupants found out that the camp director had reported them to the soldiers on the grounds of noise making after lights out.). With this harsh decision to remove all shirts, corps members of the hostel were provoked into standing up, dismissing themselves to the entrance of the hostel, and insulting all officials present for their unprecedented attitude. They refused to enter their hostel, and constituted a full hostel riot which threw fear into the minds of all officials. This riot which was accompanied by singing and protests (including breaking glass windows and student union government hailings) attracted the attention of the state coordinator, the camp commandant, and the RSM to visit the scene of the riot (the Oba of Issele-Uku hostel), and it only took the apology and address of most soldier officials, the RSM, camp commandant, and state coordinator (the major role player, as the hostel occupants refused to listen to any soldier officer anymore) to calm the riot and dismiss the corps members. This led to prolonged noise making in the hostel, as most corps members complained of lack of sleep from ant bites they received while lying on the parade ground. On record, two occupants were confirmed to have collapsed during the punishment.
