FALCONETS NOW TO PLAY IN PRETORIA

Hosts South Africa have moved Saturday's Fifa Under-20 Women's World Cup qualifying match between the Basetsana and the Falconets of Nigeria to the Caledonia Stadium in Pretoria.

Earlier information was that the match would be played at the Itsoseng Stadium in Mafikeng. But SAFA reverted to the Nigeria Football Federation on Wednesday to say the match will now come up in Pretoria.

The match will also now start thirty minutes earlier than schedule, meaning the game will kick off at 2:30pm Nigeria time.

An 18–person playing squad of the Nigeria U-20 Women's team flew out of Lagos aboard South African Airways flight on Wednesday night alongside technical and administrative officials.

The winner of the two-legged tie takes up one of Africa's two places at the tournament.

Nigeria squad:
Marbel Egwuenu, Helen Ukaonu, Josephine Chukwunonye, Ebere Orji, Soo Adekwagh, Mercy Amanze, Rebecca Kalu, Alaba Jonathan, Ngozi Ebere, Esther Michael, Joy Jegede, Amarachi Okoronkwo, Charity Adule, Blessing Edoho, Uchechi Sunday, Onyinyechi Ohadugba, Gloria Ofoegbu and Gloria Iroka.

Ngozi brace routs Basetsana

Ebere Ngozi scored twice for Nigeria's Falconets in their 5-3 rout of South Africa's Basetsana in the first leg of their Fifa Under-20 Women's World Cup qualifier, but it was Uchechi Sunday's goal that stood out as the highlight of the encounter.

The substitute dribbled her way past the entire Basetsana defence to score her first, and Nigeria's fifth of the thumping.

But it was the hosts who stared the brighter, taking the lead just seven minutes in through Chantelle Esau's well taken freekick. Nigeria wasted little time in carving out a response. Ebere Ngozi pulling them level seven minutes later, with South Africa down to 10 players while Amanda Sister was getting medical attention on the sidelines.

Three minutes later, the visitors were in front. Onyinyechi Ohadugba cracking in a long range effort that Basetsana goalkeeper Ntshetsana Mputle only saw on its way back from the net.

It was the hosts turn to find parity in a see-saw first half, as Esau claimed her second of the day four minutes before the hour.

Just as they did in the first half, it was the hosts who went in front soon after the restart when substitute Bontle Mashilo came off the bench to find the back of the net.

Again Nigeria responded. And like the South Africans, it was a substitute who answered for the Nigerians. Amarachi Okoronkwo came on and instantly tied up the score.

From then on, it was all Nigeria, as their superior physique and stamina began to tell. Ngozi added her second of the night, and then it was time for Uchechi to stun the entire park with a goal of breathtaking class.

She picked up the ball, then proceeded to weave a skein through the entire Basetsana defence, who could do little but watch in awed admiration as she went on to score one of the best goals that the Caledonian Stadium in Pretoria will ever see.

The second leg will hold in Abuja in a fortnight, with the winner progressing to the Finals of the 2010 Fifa Under-20 Women’s World Cup scheduled for Germany in July this year.

abeg leave the guy, he didn't boast, he was even pleading that we should let them qualify for once.

as for the girls, we all know our women rule African football, but we can't say that of our men.

our women play with their hearts, but our men play with their money.

Re: FALCONETS NOW TO PLAY IN PRETORIA by dominique(f): 8:45pm On Feb 16, 2010
she prolly strength of a NIGERIAN woman wink
Re: FALCONETS NOW TO PLAY IN PRETORIA by honeric01(m): 12:27am On Feb 17, 2010
the strenght of a Nigerian woman towards her fellow African is strong, but then it's of no use when she's faced with the rest of the world. hopefully, she'd do well in future world cups to come and stop making up the numbers.

our Nigerian women are good at bullying their fellow African women (football) grin
