Kidnappers release commissioner’s daughter

AKURE—AFTER spending barely five days in captivity, the daughter of the Ondo State Works Commissioner, Miss Yemi Omogunwa has been released by her abductors.
This was made possible after the father, Pastor Yele Omogunwa reportedly paid N10million to the kidnappers
.
This was coming as the state government read a riot act to perpetrators of the criminal act in the state, vowing not to take kindly to their activities.

It declared through the Information Commissioner, Ranti Akerele yesterday that government would also not enter into any negotiation with kidnappers.

Akerele described act of kidnapping as an unusual phenomenon in the state, saying that Ondo State people were not kidnappers as the act was strange to the state.

The Commissioner declined comment when approached for interview just as Yemi was equally shielded from granting interview by her parents when Vanguard visited their residence yesterday.

The residence of the Commissioner was turned into a Church as family members rejoiced and sang praises after the abductors released her.

The Commissioner’s daughter was abducted last Sunday by six gunmen who stormed their resident in Oke Ijebu area, Akure.

Police authorities who secured the release of Yemi were silent on the ransom reportedly paid by the Commissioner, Pastor Yele Omogunwa before his daughter was let off the hook on Wednesday.

Yemi was reportedly released after her father agreed to pay the ransom and was returned to residence by policemen.
Ondo State Police PRO, Adeniran Aremu confirmed the release of Yemi on Wednesday but declined further comments on where she was taken to by her captives and where she was picked up by the police after her release.

Aremu said the important thing now was that the Police have been able to secure the release of the Commissioner’s daughter.

The Commissioner said government “warned strangers that were involved in the act to stop such as the long arm of the law would soon catch up with them”.

Akerele also advised the people to be vigilant and pay attention to every strange face they noticed in their communities.
