he Lagos State Government has given mechanics and street traders along the roadsides, walkways, and under bridges in the Marina area of Lagos Island within 72 hours to vacate or be arrested.

The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Central Business District, Mr. Agboola Dabiri, said the directive came from the state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, noting that the government had vowed to bring environmental sanity to every nook and cranny of the state.

Dabiri maintained that no amount of resistance and intimidation by miscreants could make the government to rescind its resolve to clean up the entire Marina, a statement said on Monday.

He said, “We seek total compliance with this directive given to mechanics to vacate within 72 hours. There is no place for roadside mechanics, street trading and illegal shanties on Marina.”

The special adviser reiterated the determination of the present administration to restore the master plan of Marina and its environs by checking the activities of street traders and mechanics, who had converted spaces under the bridges, walkways and roads to their workshops.

“The Lagos State Government has observed with dismay the gross abuse of environmental laws and urban planning by the roadside automobile engineers, mechanics and street traders on the Island. The environmental abuse can no longer be tolerated which necessitated the decision to check illegality," he added.
