The Governor of Edo Sate, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has called for stronger ties between the church and government to fast-track efforts at the development of the country.
He made the call when the president of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), Reverend Jeremiah Gado and some members of the church paid a courtesy visit to the governor at Government House in Benin City.
According to the governor, such partnership would ensure the development of a strong, peaceful and corruption free society as the cause of the present challenges the nation was grappling with, was bad leadership.
Obaseki explained that when there is crisis in the society, people fall back to the church, hence the need for the church to take specific steps with government in building a strong country that everyone will be proud of.
“The church has a role in ensuring stability in the society and partnership with the church is something we must strengthen’’ he said.
Earlier, Rev. Gado said he was on a pastoral visit to Edo and Delta states and disclosed plans by the church to extend social services to Edo people and requested for land from the governor to enable the church build schools and hospitals.
He added that the social projects would enhance the spiritual and physical well-being of members and a strategy for reaching out to people who are yet to accept the Christian faith.
He commended the developmental strides of the Obaseki-led administration especially in road construction and appealed to him to use his good office to speak for the oppressed, widows, orphans, voiceless, poor and improve on the lots of the teeming unemployed youths in the state.
