OGUN PDP PRESS STATEMENT 


NATIONAL CARETAKER COMMITTEE SHOULD BE GUIDED BY THE CONSTITUTION AND RULE OF LAW


The Ogun State Peoples Democratic Party, under the progressive leadership of Engr Adebayo DAYO is using this medium to urge Senator Ahmed Makarfi and other members of the National Caretaker Committee to follow the rules of law as a minimum consideration in handling the business of the party especially in the aftermath of today's Special non-elective National Convention. 


It will be recalled that the protracted national leadership acrimony lasted until the Supreme Court judgement decided in a particular direction. It therefore suggests that the National Caretaker Committee being a product of the rule of law, should be circumspect and guided by the law in all of its actions. Suffice to pungently state that we reject the purported dissolution of Ogun PDP executives. 


The Ogun state chapter of the PDP under my leadership is a creation of the party's extant processes and also of the Law - as guaranteed by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Let us state for the umpteenth time that the NEC of this party had ratified the congresses of 31 states, ogun state inclusive - to which the Makarfi committee itself - had also alluded to. 


We are therefore scandalized at the reason and basis for which Ogun state executive will be so dissolved whereas, the same convention ratified other states that had been earlier cleared alongside our State. The National leadership should not allow itself to be used by antidemocratic and desperate elements in ogun state and the southwest. 


The PDP as an institution despite being autonomous, still exists under the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which is the grundnorm of our corporate existence. Therefore, the National caretaker committee cannot repudiate a valid executive that has been further legitimised by the judgement of a federal high court that is unappealed as at now. 


For us in ogun state PDP and just like the national caretaker committee did till it got it's own permanent victory, we are going to fully test this case to the highest level of judicial intervention. For now, nothing has changed and the party executives at all levels in ogun state under my leadership remains sacrosanct until a superior court states otherwise.
