The Queen is preparing to make Prince Charles King of England and abdicated the throne, according to reports.
Queen Elizabeth, 91, intends to step aside when she turns 95, a Royal Household source told The Mail.

They said: “Out of the profound respect the Queen holds for the institution of monarchy and its stewardship, Her Majesty would want to make sure that she has done everything she can for her country and her people before she hands over. She is dutiful to her core.

“Her Majesty is mindful of her age and wants to make sure when the time comes, the transition of the Crown is seamless.

“I understand the Queen has given the matter considerable thought and believes that, if she is still alive at 95, she will seriously consider passing the reign to Charles.”

The Queen during a visit to Coventry which took in a tour of Walsgrave Hospital where she officially opened the newly finished building. She chatted to nurses and patients and in her speech she said that Coventry had particular cause to take pride in the new hospital. “Today’s ceremony marks another stage in the re-creation of your city after the destruction of the last war. “This long task at which so many people have worked so patiently over the years is one whih which I have been very happy to be associated with in the past. “A great deal of original thinking has gone into the planning and building of this hospital – more can be done to cure and care for a patient than has ever been possible in the past. “However good its buildings and equipment must depend on the quality of its staff. Their work is more demanding than it has ever been. “Those of you who have been patients will remember the spirit of dedication which is the driving force among doctors and nurses and those who work with them.” After the ceremony the Queen received a bouquet from 21-year-old student nurse Helen Ogilvie, Coventry-born, who has been at the hospital since it opened. The Queen was presented with a silver paperknife in a special casket as a memento of the occassion. As she was closing the lid of the casket she seemed to trap her fingers and said: “It would be fine if I lost the tip of my finger and had to stay here as a patient.” At the maternity hospital she spoke to Dr. A. Burzaco and congratulated him on the recent successful delivery of siamese twins. 30th June 1970

Clarence House is making no comment about ‘Plan Regency’, which involves a piece of legislation called the Regency Act coming into force.

“I have spoken to a number of high-ranking courtiers who made it clear that preparations for a transition are moving ahead at pace,” Royal commentator for the Daily Mail , Robert Jobson, said.

“They have all confirmed that a Regency with Charles taking the lead is now, at the very least, a real possibility.”

The act would grant the Queen’s eldest son full power to reign even while she still lives.

According to the Mail, one senior former member of the Royal Household said: “Out of the profound respect the Queen holds for the institution of monarchy and its stewardship, Her Majesty would want to make sure that she has done everything she can for her country and her people before she hands over. She is dutiful to her core.

Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the throne in 1952.

She famously dedicated her life to her future role as monarch on her 21st birthday, vowing to serve the Commonwealth.

She said: “I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.”

Her dad, George VI, was King until his death in February 1952.

Her Majesty is now Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, with polls showing she remains hugely popular among people in the country.
