Obasanjo Hits National Assembly Again; Calls Constituency Projects Corruption by AnotherZik: 5:56pm On Aug 14, 2017
BEVERLY HILLS, August 14, (THEWILL) – Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday took another potshot at members of the National Assembly, describing the constituency projects being embarked upon by them as “corruption”.

He stated this at the opening of a two-day investment forum organised by the Niger State government with the theme: ‘Impact Investing for Advancing Agricultural Economy And Innovation’.

Obasanjo said, “Sultan talked about roads. I hope our lawmakers will use their position and act positively so that when they put in road projects in the budget, they will not turn it into what they now term as constituency projects.

“You and I know what constituency projects mean, it is simply corruption.”

He maintained that the federal and state governments should carry out massive rural and urban road construction to facilitate the movement of agricultural products from the farms to the markets.

THEWILL recalls that the ex-president had while delivering a lecture at the first Akintola Williams Annual Lecture in Lagos late last year stated that the “National Assembly stinks and stinks to high heavens. It needs to be purged”.

He also accused the federal parliament of corruption and of operating a cabal “worse than any cabal that anybody may find anywhere in our national governance system at any time”.

Obasanjo is a true national leader, like him or hate him.He says it the way it is not minding whose horse is gored.

We all know that constituency project money always end up in the pockets of these thieves called legislators.
The national Assembly indeed stinks of corruption and if this country has to move forward then that place has to be fumigated and sanitized.

My brother politicians will not like this at all.Any attempt to clean up the national and state Assembly will be met with serious opposition from reapers of political investments.

But the truth remains that we need to cut down on cost of governance at least by proscribing the house of reps.

Thought provoking

Though I still berate baba iyabo for his inglorious third term misadventure and other imperfections, I will ally myself with his opinion at this juncture.

If I had my way I will have the both Chambers subsumed into a unicameral legislature,
Or do away with the Senate like the Senegalese and Mauritanians did,

Below is what was budgeted by federal ministry of works, housing and power,
And how padding, depadding and depropriatition went about,
Taking into cognizance, the many failed portions of federal roads that needs reconstruction, while the funds were channelled to the fictitious constituency projects which might never see the light of the day, as have been the customary practice over the years,to the detriment of Nigerians, they travel by first class flights and hire private jets, while the shortchanged poor masses die everyday on road accidents.

Here we are talking of lagos - ibadan, abuja-kano-maiduguri, second niger bridge project etc

In addition,

It is pertinent to note that as we speak, RCC and JULIUS BERGER, have down their tools and left site of the portions of works on lagos - ibadan express way, to this effect they made it official, due to paucity of funds for mobilization on site, they kept faith, but government couldn't , hold on to their own end of the bargain.

Isn't this pathetically unbecoming?

What did he do on when in office?
He made Paris Club wipe off debts accumulated by many previous Nigerian govt before him. Also, successfully privatised the telecommunications sector- compare Objs telecoms privatisation with GEJs power sector privatisation. Waged the most successful war against corruption ever under Ribadu. Compare Ribadu under OBJ to Farida/Lamorde under GEJ......
