SENATORS who are members of the National Interest Group (NIG) rose from a meeting on Monday in Abuja and resolved to commence impeachment process against ailing President Umaru Yar'Adua.
Members of the NIG who met on Monday concluded that the time was ripe to give FEC members the ultimatum.

Sources at the meeting confirmed that the senators, who are 80 in number, are worried that some Nigerians were planning to return the nation to darkness by going to court over the decision to empower Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan as acting president.

The chairman of NIG, Senator Bala Mohammed, confirmed that the lawmakers made fundamental decision to move Nigeria forward at the Monday meeting.

Seventy of the senators attended the meeting where they gave the FEC up till Wednesday to decide on the capabilities or otherwise of President Yar’Adua.

Secretary of the group, Senator Smart Adeyemi, also said the lawmakers were concerned that some Nigerians were going to court over the decison of the National Assembly to empower Jonathan.

He said the decision had brought down tension in the land and had been well received by the international community.

It was gathered that the NIG decided to give FEC till Wednesday to invoke Section 144 of the 1999 Constitution and declare the ailing president permanently incapacitated.

The lawmakers are of the view that the failure of members of the House who were in Saudi Arabia to see the ailing leader is a further confirmation that the man is permanently incapacitated.

Senator Adeyemi said the senators had decided to defend the nation and give the ministers the benefit of the doubt till Wednesday.

There's no need to impeach a sick and dying man its a waste of our democratic process. Jonathan is in full control and if he is interested let us allow him play the necesary politics to give him d position. I'm sure Jonathan knows all d intrigues and past evenets show that he knows how to hit wen hot he knows how to take power even frm his adversaries and they won't complain he is expreienced in the art of patience this country shld be allowed to proceed on its path to full democratisation in peace an impeachment can send a wrong signal.

He needs to be impeached so Jonathan can work in peace.

Yar'Adua's clique are probably planning to bring him into the country as soon as possible ,so he can smile for the cameras and we revert to the status quo ante.

So his wife & friends can continue to rule us by proxy.

Either FEC declares him incapacitated or he's impeached . . . .one of the 2 must happen & happen quickly !

How well can a 38kg man smile? A "fly him home on life support" desperate measure will just not cut it.
I support that he gets impeached for the country to move forward though.

Commendable move.

Thank God for a legislature that's woken up to its responsibilities.

If the pro- Yaradua's knows he can still come back and perform his duties lets them tell Turai & co. who have assess to him to show Nigerians a live TV broadcast for i don't see reasons why we are still waiting for a man nobody has seen in close to 3 months.
His impeachment or declare incapacitated move is long overdue.

I am so surprise at one man's greed.

it still bothers me on why he decided to take the offer of being the president of this unsettled country
why he didn't reject the offer when it was made to him.

He was sick before he became the president. He couldnt even manage to campaign for himself, he collapsed during one of his campaign. He knows how bad and detororiating his health is, and he just couldnt say NO to the hot seat.

See all the razz mataz going on just becos of his greed for power.

His "not at all good" wife couldnt even advise him right.

I pity for him, he has only given a bad image to himself and his family. (A sick president who just dont want to let go off power, until he was removed from being the head of ecowas and impeached from being the president)

the real problem here is his incompetence at running nigeria, compared to former leaders of nigeria, yaradua is the worst so far, if he his cabinet was performing and as half efficient as the FEC during obasanjo's era, nobody will be talking of replacing him , even if he was a vegetable.

Some people would rather put a vegetative Yaradua in Aso Rock whilst they run the country themselves, insisting and implying that the directives are from the Presidency.

Imagine a house wife, and a group of un-elected special advisers running this country,  are these people sick or mad to think a society as sophisticated as Nigeria would continue to turn a blind eye at such atrocity,  for how long do they think they can get away with murder, cold blooded murder.

These hoodlums holding the country to ransom must be grabbed and hauled into Jail for treason and subversiveness no matter how high and mighty they might be. The treasury of the Nigeria state has suddenly become their families’ piggy bank. Who is going to pay for the air ambulance that would clearly ferry a very sick man from the comfort of his hospital ward in Saudi Arabia to the mosquito infested corridors of power just to prove a point.

The Bauchi State legislatures should start impeachment proceedings against Yuguda, I doubt if that man has sat for a day and do the job he was elected for. Who is paying for his 1st class travel all over the world, I sincerely hope the expenses is not coming out of  in Bauchi State’s coffers.

i think the impeachment's a long time coming. according to section 143 of the constitutin, the president shld ave long been impeached cos dere was no forwardn letter to the senate as at d time his leavn the country.

so i think they are all culpable, senate and all. they are all a bunch of sycophants and hypocrites.
