A 30-year old woman who paraded herself as a nurse has been arrested by the police at Ajangbadi for allegedly procuring abortion on a 16-year old girl.

The suspect, Oluchi Uwa, was accused of giving drugs to the victim (names withheld) to terminate her four-month old pregnancy without the consent of the girl’s guardians.

P.M.NEWS gathered that the victim, who was a housemaid, went to the suspect and inform her that she was pregnant and wanted to terminate the pregnancy.

The suspect agreed to help her and reportedly gave her drugs that terminated the foetus but along the line, there was complication in the abortion as the victim started to bleed profusely and she later confessed what happened to her guardians.

The matter was reported at the police station and the suspect was arrested and charged to Ojo Magistrate’s Court.

The charge partly read: “That you, Oluchi Uwa, on the same date and time and place, did procure abortion on the victim.”

The offence, police said, is contrary to Section 228 of the Criminal Code, Cap 17, Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

When it was read to her, she pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N80,000 with two sureties in the like sum.

The matter has been adjourned for hearing.
