amicable09: B Maam, the CBN had issued a circular to ALL Financial Institutions in Nigeria to accept the NIN Slip as a valid means of identification. CBN read the NIMC Act and directed all financial institutions accordingly, which is why the NIMC account could come down hard on the Sterling bank customer support handle. |

amicable09:Do you really know the function of NIBSS for you to say that NIMC should contact them on issues of identity, FYI by law NIMC is sole manager of all identities in Nigeria. Very soon all ids including, drivers licence, intl passport, voters card, NCC, etc will be harmonised under NIMC management, by the way NIBSS means Nigeria interbank settlement scheme which primary function is clearing of instruments issued on banks 1 Like |

SOME BASIC AND LATEST INFORMATION YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT NIMC. This will get us more informed... 1: The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) was established in 2007. Started enrolling citizens for National Identification Number (NIN) in 2012. The new National e-ID Card was launched late 2014. 2: Previous National ID Card programs in Nigeria were CARD based i.e register citizens mainly for the purpose of issuing National Identity Cards. 3: NIMC is a shift in paradigm, from the old card based method of citizen identity keeping, to an advanced 'number' based identity management system. 4: The National Identification Number (NIN) issued to you by NIMC consists of 11 unintelligent digits generated after a successful enrollment, it is UNIQUE, no two people have the same number. 5: The NIN issued to you is your identity in the National Identity Database of Nigeria FOR LIFE. If a NIN holder dies that unique number is rested permanently. 6: NIMC has been enrolling applicants and issuing the NIN on a slip since 2012. Once you have a NIN you are in the National Database. 7: You can NOT register twice successfully, our systems will detect, and it is a serious crime to attempt to have more than one NIN. 8: Commencement of the mandatory use of the NIN as the official means of identity verification in Nigeria will be announced very soon. We are only allowing some time to issue more NIN. 9: Ag. President Yemi Osinbajo heads the committee set up by the current government for harmonization of all identity databases, NIMC leads the process, all affected agencies are members. 10: The harmonization committee comprising all data collecting agencies has been working since mid-2016 and has rounded up its report recently. 11: Data are already been transferred to the database domiciled at the NIMC. Your BVN data from banks have started arriving at NIMC, same as SIM registration data from NCC and others. Some agencies and banks are now connected live to NIN verification portal and are accepting the NIN as a choice means of identity validation. The CBN has directed all banks to commence the use of the NIN. NIMC will soon start enforcement. 12: Based on the above, if you have a BVN and you don't have a NIN, you will still need to visit our enrollment center for updating of your data and the issuance of a NIN to you. 13: Now, the much demanded and the all popular National e-ID Card which has seemed so slow in coming and for which NIMC has been apologizing to Nigerians. 14: The National e-ID Card is one of the components of the National Identity Management System (NIMS) being implemented by NIMC. The card was piloted (launched) in September of 2014. 15: Currently one of the most advanced multipurpose National ID Cards anywhere in the world, like most NIMC services the card is issued FREE to NIN holders. EVERYONE who has a NIN will be issued a card. 16: To meet some new technologies on the electronic card, we had to clean up some registration data already collected before 2014, we did this without re-inviting enrollees. 17: Most of these 'cleaning' were only necessary for early bird registrants, the great Nigerians who registered for the NIN as early as 2012 and 2013. 18: Not to waste resources and time, we printed cards for some more recent 'ready' records, along with ready data from earliest registrants. This is basically why some persons were issued cards before others. 19: We have now cleared ALL cards for those who registered in 2012, if you registered in 2012 and haven't been contacted via SMS please contact us via inbox here or go to touch.nimc.gov.ng to check your card collection batch ID. 20: Our Card Management Service department is now fully working on a first-in first-out basis, and are far gone into 2013/14 records as well. We sincerely appreciate the patience and the wait, we will clear all outstanding cards. 21: The entire process of card issuance could have been faster, agreed, but NIMC has been fully dependent on government for funding since inception in 2007. It is only when sufficient budgetary allocations get to us that we meet our funds based objectives. 22: We have recently been rounding up talks with Government, EU, World Bank etc to diversify sources of funding and to access some required support to speed up the NIMS and serve better. 23: Recent government effort and support will soon see us increase records in our database significantly from current 17 million+ registrations, and to clear card backlog. 24: If you have misplaced your NIN slip simply go to any NIMC state office and request for NIN slip reprint, you will only be required to pay N500 into government TSA account. You can also update your data at the nearest state office, simply request for Data Modification. 25: Finally, we must understand that no process of change from old ways to the new has ever been easy. We enjoin Nigerians and legal residents to continue supporting this important national assignment. Follow us on Twitter @nimc_ng, check out our website www.nimc.gov.ng or call 08157691071, 08157691214 for more information. THANK YOU 6 Likes 2 Shares |

Which is why at this point, I plead that you go through the subject and my first post again. It will save us all so much stress. cc. Banks are just being wicked and sometimes don't know what they are doing. A card that has your NIN why is it not used? rubbish laws! FG said this cards can be used pending when permanent one comes out. For me, I use mine in my Bank, but I hear some bank refuses it like Sterling.... What else do they want us to use? What is wrong with this country, full of controversies and contradictions! |

amicable09: The temporary slip HAS THE NIN, the temporary slip is different from the enrollment form. While the Enrollment Slip is just really a confirmation of data capture, the Temporary Slip has all your details that any institution would use to verify your identity. As a matter of fact, NiMC is brooding the idea (which is what it should have been actually) that the Card itself is not mandatory and having your NIN number assigned to you in the main thing. As of now, once you quite your NIN at Immigration, you would not need to do any data capture for your International Passport. |

Emanodimo: What you need is your NIN, and it is on your Temporary Slip. With or without the printed card, your NIN is gonna be the same and acceptable for verification. 1 Like |

amicable09: I think your information on the verifiability of the NIN slip is stale. NIMC has sent out a link for verification. Also, are you aware that the TVC is verifiable and yet banks do not accept it as valid, I wonder why? The VIN on the TVC can be verified with same portal as the PMC. Let's say that for the latter CBN did not ok it, but for the former I think they have ok'ed it probably because of the challenges NIMC has with making available the main Natl id |
Re: NIMC's Response To Sterling Bank On Temporary Slip As Means Of Identification by Cecero(m): 5:23am On Aug 18, 2017 |
amicable09: Go check again please, the temp NIMC has the NIN. Somebody already mentioned here, there are two parts to the temp NIMC card; one is the registration form, the other has the NIN. The latter is the one verifiable on the portal NIMC has provided. |
