The round-leather game is arguably the most watched sport on the planet and since its inception has amassed a lot of die-hard followers.

From the FIFA World-Cup to the European Cups; football has not only changed a lot of lives amongst the global youth, it has equally succeeded in uniting global citizens beyond the limitations of race, languages, religion or traditions.

Infact, it is no gainsaying to affirm that football is increasingly becoming a religion amongst its myriad of passionate followers.

This hypothetical statement of whether truly football is a religion cannot be overemphasised, considering the quantum of passionate followers that view a typical football match-whether a national team organised friendly or competitive club game.

Forgetting the hazards and tragic incidents that have been witnessed both on the pitch and off it, the round-leather game positive obviously outweighs its negatives.

Throughout a lifetime, football offers so many euphoric moments and undying memories that unleash good vibes amongst spectators.

For spectators, it is gratifying to be on the winning side and most often; the feeling is surreal when your club or national team secure silverware or accomplish a feat during or after a competition.

However, right from the birth of the round-leather game, one thing beats the imaginations of the non-football freak, and that is; what value does the sport bring to the table of its die-hard followers?

Honestly, ask many passionate fans this simple question, you will only find response that would at best keep you more confused. This is because most football enthusiasts have got little or no affirmative answer as to why they so much enthusiastically keep faith to supporting their clubs and national teams at various competitions from time to time. For many of them, Football is a religion which they so much adore.

Besides that, global fans of the sport spend fortune to see a football fixture; many places unimaginable funds on a bet to predict possible outcomes of a football encounter while though sounds unbelievable, many offers prayers to the ‘God of Soccer’ to help them triumph over an opponent.

Moreover, many philosophers have posited that peradventure there is a ‘God of Soccer’ that negotiates the outcome of a football match or is it that football’s outcome is a resultant effect of good preparation, skills and financial might to get the best players on board?

Whatever your personal view about the foregoing, one thing I have keenly observed over 2 decades of watching the sport, the outcome of a football match is the summation of not only the mentioned factors but more importantly, the luck factor.

Hold on a minute before criticizing that football outcomes renege on luck or chance.

To buttress my view, you will agree that unplanned events do occur before, during and after a match fixture that rightly influences possible outcomes. These events could be an injury suffered by an important player, suspensions for disciplinary reasons, giving of matching orders during the match and the likes.

All these incidents are unpredictable but do occur. Most often than not, when a team is a beneficiary of any, the chance of winning is more rather than a team being on the victim side.

In a nutshell, football is a beautiful game, though no spectator can correctly explain or quantify the tangible benefits that the game brings to them individually or collectively, one thing stands sure; Football unites the World!
