Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) For 2017/2018 Admission - What It Means? Report from the ongoing JAMB policy meeting indicates that JAMB has introduced the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) which is geared towards ensuring quality control, transparency and credibility of the admission process. According to a participant, the new policy is expected to make provision for a ‘market place’ in the JAMB portal where institutions can go and ‘request for students in Nigeria who score their cut off points.’ These institutions will write to JAMB to request for the students and also give them (students) three days to respond. Also, only three universities can request for a candidate if the policy is adopted. The new policy is also expected to allow institutions in Nigeria peg their cut off point after meeting with their respective senates. What JAMB Central Admission Processing System CAPS Does? The new policy will also give the academic board or senate of an institution the power to ‘allocate percentages to JAMB, the school and O’level results as these will be calculated to get the students’ cut off marks for post-UTME.’ It was also learnt that JAMB wants to ensure there is a unified time for closing admission in all universities. If the policy sails through, there will be a portal for admission which will be based on cut off points, quota system and catchment areas. “The new system is such that institutions can only admit those who meet their cut off points,” an admission officer for a tertiary institution who was at the meeting said. “If a candidate does not meet the cut off, no matter whom he or she knows, such person cannot be admitted.” The official said the system was demonstrated to all the attendees at Monday’s meeting, most of whom expressed satisfaction with it. Also, the policy intends to make provisions for candidates to accept and reject any admission being offered to them. The intended policy also looks out for candidates who are unable to go for National Youth Service, NYSC, because they do not have JAMB admission letters. This set of students could be asked to pay a fee, about N10,000 for regularisation and would be able to go for the youth service. JAMB is expected to formally brief journalists on these new policies on Tuesday afternoon. Source: http://www.ngschoolz.com/jamb-central-admission-processing-system-caps/ 6 Likes 4 Shares |

JAMB IS CONFUSED. In a bid to enforce transparency in the admission processes of institutions. They have decided to act as a middleman between aspirants and institutions which I find disgusting and appalling.Allow Candidates transact directly with their institution of choice.Allow them sit for PostUTME without JAMB's interference! JAMB should take its filthy hands away from interfering into admission modalities. If Schools will source for Candidates themselves..then why allow aspirants pick an institution of choice while registering?? Ah just tire sev! 11 Likes |

My name is Psalm. Yes, awkward right? But that’s the name my mamma called me when I was born. My Dad had wanted to call me Job, but my mamma would not have it. “Have you seen any man called Job that wasn’t a carpenter or a bricklayer” she had fired at my dad. “All the people wey dey answer Job na so so suffer suffer!” Mamma certainly hadn’t heard of Steve Jobs (well, after he moved out of the garage). Plus my oldman had suffered much, having lived from hand to mouth since he lost his job thirty years ago, yet his name wasn’t Job. So there was more to suffering than being called an ordinary name. “Let’s call him David” my momma had suggested. “It is simple and short. And remember he killed Goliath.” “David? The man who stole another man’s wife? I can’t call my son David. All the people wey dey answer David too like woman!” Mamma had thought of it and the lives of a few people bearing David in my neighbourhood had been enough to convince her. In fact two days before I was named, two married men had fought over a woman on the street, and they were both called David. After much dilly dallying, they called me Psalm. Popsy wasn’t so excited about the name; David and Psalm were like Bobrisky and bleaching – One and the same. But in the end he accepted it. So that was how I got my name, one would think after all the hair-splitting deliberations that gave birth to my name, my name would at least bring me luck. Far from it. I don suffer pass nyash. Yes. I have been peed on, shit on, sat on and what not… Yesterday was the day kasala burst for my head. I was on my way to an interview. Since 5 years wey I graduate, bros, I never see real job. But that yesterday, something told me that was the end of my job search. My girlfriend had linked me to a friend that had friend who was the GM in a manufacturing company. When I contacted the so called GM, he picked the phone and answered me like a vampire had given him a Mouth Gig. “Who be rat? He spat out. “It’s me Psalm. A friend of Sarah, who is a friend to Akpan, your good friend. He said you are the GM of Green food Industries.” I could hear him chuckling on the other end. “Werin you wan make I ju for you?” he replied. I was already getting pissed. “I want to submit my CV to your company. I was told you could help me get a job” “Bring am tomorrow, I go help you give the GM” “Are you not the GM? “Bro e be like say you never ready. I be the Gateman, your friend no tell your friend to tell your friend to tell you? My jaw dropped. But I had no choice; I tidied my white shirt and dusted my CV. I must get that job the next day… As early as 8 AM the next day, I set out. My gf had made a delicious afang soup the other night. I quickly heated four wraps of fufu, devoured it and left feeling like a bouncer. It had rained the other night and the bad roads were still muddy. I did my best to avoid reckless drivers from splashing dirty water on me. My best, as usual, was not enough. A man in a black prado Jeep zoomed past, emptying a pot hole of muddy water on me. I did what any other frustrated man would do. I boarded a bike and chased after him. Who knows, he could settle me with something tangible. The okadaman was a skillful rider but the prado guy had no chill. After five minutes, I spotted his car parked right in front of my babe’s apartment. Fear catch me like politician wey receive alert from Dasuki. I paid off the bike man and cautiously peeped into my girlfriend’s one room apartment. What I saw shocked me. The story continues in the next sequel GIRLS AINT LOYAL 6 Likes 2 Shares |

Confusion upon confusion. System sounds good and transparent but it's new and will definitely have negative consequences as it's obviously spontaneous. Even the CBT had irregularities |

Qyubee: I don't see anything laudable about this. This brings lots of uncertainties and confusion, and the privilege to choose the University one will attend is taken away except for the three Universities that might pick a student. So, if I score very high in jamb e.g. 329 and my dream is to attend OAU....if by some luck Some three unknown Universities with cuts like 180, 190, 200 get in front of the line ahead of OAU with cut of 310...I will be stuck with these three unknowns, despite the fact that I clearly met OAU criteria. The choice of which Univeristy or School to attend should be returned to the candidates and not some central arbitrary system. There lots of things that goes into choosing the state/city/school one wish to attend, these criterias are a complex mix of attachment, religion, sediments, relationships, geopolitical, emotions, educational standard, environment, location, economy, state of mind, friends, foes, tradition, personal attraction or affinity, specific and targeted goals/plans colleagues, politics, etc ... and some central decision making portal cannot replace these. I pray and hope that this fails hopelessly and badly. 2 Likes |

I just know that this "NIGERIA" we know has its own ways of by-cutting policies...Once you know the V.C, registrar or someone of such caliber cut off or no cut off you would get admission full stop... Nonetheless, its a good approach |
