The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) made a huge ‘catch’ at Alaba Market.

On Monday the Board displayed many copies of allegedly pirated Nigerian movies and duplicating machines it seized during a raid on Alaba international market.

The censor's board did a ‘collabo’ with the Movie Producers Association of Nigeria to conduct a raid.

Executive Director of NFVCB, Adedayo Thomas, described the raid as the first in a series of steps to be taken by a national task end cases of piracy in Nigeria.

“This is a subtle signal to persons distributing unclassified film and video works, persons distributing film and video works not registered for distribution in Nigeria, persons operating film and video distribution business without appropriate license.

Persons distributing film and video works on premises not licensed and all persons profiting from the sweat of film and video creative directors without proper right assignment that they should find other business as the Board under my watch will not rest until we get rid of them from our industry,” Thomas said.

‘Wedding Party’, ‘Jenifa’s Diary’, ‘Wives on Strike’ and ‘A trip to Jamaica’ constituted a major bulk of the pirated works seized during the raid.

Multiple DVD copiers, writable DVDs, and generators were also confiscated.

The NFVCB is also said to have arrested some of the pirates behind the illegal production and distribution of the movies.

An amendment to the National Film and Video Censors Board Act means that pirates get a maximum of 3 years jail term or pay a fine of N500,000.
