Good points. You should also remember that almost HALF of all wealth in Europe today originated from Africa. Europe deserves its wealth, afterall raw materials without creativity, science and engineering is nothing. But all the sugar, cotton, human labour, tea, oil, gold, diamonds, iron ore and so on that helped fuel the West's industrial revolution were obtained at dirt cheap prices - not fair market value, at the barrel of a gun.

The West stripped out resources - human and materials, then instituted policies that perpetuated the lopsided arrangements, then supported puppet governments (no matter how oppressive) while helping to overthrow independent ones.

Remittances and direct investment have become a far larger portion of money into Africa than aid. See the graph on https://www.brookings.edu/blog/africa-in-focus/2015/05/20/how-finance-flows-to-africa/ and for the past 30 years, Africans abroad have sent in more money than foreign governments - which is how it should be BTW.

In addition, the interest payments of various loans by African governments over the years should be subtracted from said aid. In fact, the chart on https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2014/jul/15/aid-africa-west-looting-continent shows in 2014 aid and grant inflow of 29+10 Billion, versus interest payments and company profits to the West of 21+46 Billion. Just these two show a net outflow of 28 Billion.

Even the donations you speak of amount to Western governments subsidizing Western businesses - after all who supplies all the material bought with Aid money? The tractors, solar panels, books, water bottles, cell phones, fertilizer, buses, and so on? The money goes right back to the West which employs its people to make the things that aid money buys. A very smart use of money, if I may say so.

I understand where your coming from - aid does make Africans more dependent - but the added irony is that aid actually makes the West richer, provides that feel good of "supporting the underdeveloped world", while unfairly discouraging local industry.
