'you Cannot Run In 2011' Obasanjo Tells Jonathan by woye77: 12:39am On Feb 21, 2010
resh facts have emerged on what transpired at a recent secret meeting between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Acting President Goodluck Jonathan.
Sunday Sun learnt that Obasanjo told Jonathan that he may have to pay a price by not contesting the 2011 presidential election if the ongoing effort to make him substantive president sails through.

A source at the meeting said the parley was principally convened to chart the way forward politically for the country.
Although the advice appears to be in the interest of Jonathan and the stability of the country, it was gathered that it was equally a ploy by Obasanjo to push through another agenda of imposing a candidate on the nation like he did in 2007.
Already, the plot has rankled some politicians in the North who fear that a fresh attempt by the former leader to impose his candidate on the nation in the 2011 presidential contest might be in the works.
The North and, indeed, other parts of the country are said to be blaming Obasanjo as the architect of the present political logjam in the country, because of the imposition of Yar’Adua on the nation in 2007.

The present fear is hinged on alleged plan by the former president to line up an array of his candidates as likely Vice President to Jonathan in an arrangement that will also allow the same candidate succeed Jonathan in 2011.
Sunday Sun gathered that the acting president is under intense pressure from the former president to consider one of his candidates.

However, the move, which has leaked to northern leaders, is being resisted by the oligarchy in the region, which has also been advising Jonathan to be his own man and resist pressure from the former president.
According to some of them working quietly to checkmate Obasanjo’s moves, any attempt to allow him impose a northern vice president who will succeed Jonathan in 2011 will be tantamount to allowing him get his aborted third term agenda through the back door for the second time.

Some of the candidates Obasanjo is already pushing forward from the North East, according to sources, are his former Minister of Agriculture, Adamu Bello, the present Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), Alhaji Yayale Ahmed, who also served under Obasanjo, the Gombe State Governor, Danjuma Goje or his Adamawa State counterpart, Murtala Nyako.
The Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, is said to be reserved as a joker from the North West, if the position is eventually zoned there.

Some groups are also backing former National Security Adviser to Obasanjo, Gen. Aliyu Gusau. Gusau, a presidential aspirant in 2007, is from the North West.
The case for Nyako, it was learnt, was that since he is old, he would have to leave the stage in 2011, along with Jonathan, paving the way for the emergence of another candidate.
But the dummy may not sell since Nyako is already campaigning for a second term in Adamawa.
Obasanjo was also said to have told Jonathan that he should not expect to be vice president again in 2011, after serving as the Commander-in -Chief for close to 15 months.

In the same vein, it was learnt that former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, and former boss of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nuhu Ribadu, are also mounting pressure to be allowed to return home.
The two, who are also confidants of Obasanjo, it was learnt, are canvassing the position that younger elements in their mould from the North should be considered for the plum job.
However, some elements in the North stoutly against allowing the former President railroad the region into picking a candidate are already plotting to stall whatever move he makes in that direction.
They are said to be adopting “a two-pronged approach of stalling Obasanjo’s plans and at the same time coming up with a viable alternative to whatever plan that the PDP Board of Trustees chairman might put forward.”

Part of the plan, it was learnt, is for the northern oligarchy to queue behind a non-politician as deputy to Jonathan, while at the same time canvassing the need not to allow a politician be a deputy to Jonathan.
The source, however, said: “We might be looking at the possibility of a man that has no ambition to contest the 2011 election because we feel that the election should be credible for the stability of the country. The person too must understand the workings of government and be able to speak up for the North in the present set up.

“We need to shoot down the idea of using a politician if we want a credible election in 2011. Sincerely, we can do well without ambitious politicians supervising elections here. They don’t do sincere jobs,” the source said.
It was further revealed that the names of a former minister, Gen. Ali Magoro, as well as that of former defence minister, Gen. Theophilus Danjuma, were penciled down as possible deputy in the event of Jonathan becoming substantive President.
“The two are people that are not interested in any election and they knows their onion. We know they are honest and love this country, and you can be sure they will do a good job. We will eventually settle for one of them after consultations,” our source added.

Meanwhile, Obasanjo’s Abeokuta Hilltop home has become a beehive of activities as favour-seeking politicians flock to the mansion to seek the former President’s assistance.
A source claimed “the place is already a Mecca of sorts for all manner of people seeking one favour or the other from Jonathan, like those who want to be in the next ECF, those who want to be governors and those seeking second term in the national assembly. The man is holding court and he seems to be enjoying it.”

Most times I wonder what these political cabals really take us for. It seems we the citizens don’t realize that for us to succeed as a nation, we must say no to God-fatherism and it-is-my-turn kind of politics and make sure our electoral processes are credible. Come 2011, trust me it’s going to be business as usual and as usual, we shall all swallow it like hot noodles. God please deliver us from the wickedness of these politicians that put their selfish interests first before over 150M Nigerians.

Amen. Your post, though short , makes profound sense to me. I agree with you totally that we must reject god-fatherism and kingmaking because those practices only churn up compromised individuals , like Yar Adua and Jonathan, who are intrinsically impotent to deliver positive leadership for Nigeria because of the deal they made with their 'godfathers'.

Those who think they can wish Messianic power on Jonathan , so that he will make Nigeria work, will be thoroughly dissapointed. Many of us have reached our current status in life because we put in the effort to be excellent in our field of expertise. We were selected on merit and not by self-serving individuals and cabals . Like it or lump it , Yar Adua and Jonathan are poor leaders who gained their exalted positions because they ostensibly possessed 'qualities' that happen to suit the agenda of a few kingmaker !!!!

When Nigeria continues to empower the 'weakest links' it is obvious that we are not ready for the struggle to build a great nation .

I absolutely agree with you. Only a leadership based on merit can redeem Nigeria and we all need to stop acting like the Ostrich. If people of intellect refuse to take part in politics, how then do we expect our politics to be based on intellect and integrity? And if you look at the present administration, you will struggle to find people of intellect.

Nigeria ought to look inwards to consider where we had lapses and admit those lapses then take steps to resolve them so that they do not reoccur. We need a true leader popular or unpopular. Good people need to come out this time around and participate and oust these evil people with their do-or-die politics from positions of power for effective leadership. So we all need to be prepared and vote come 2011 and make sure our votes counts.
Re: 'you Cannot Run In 2011' Obasanjo Tells Jonathan by Jakumo(m): 5:34am On Feb 21, 2010
After stealing the entire 16 billion dollar budgetary assignment earmarked for the provision of electricity to Nigeria during the tail end of his reign as the country's looter in chief, Mr. Obasanjo no doubt feels more omnipotent than God, as evidenced by his declaration that Goodluck Jonathan may not run for future elections.

There is a lot to be said for getting away free and clear after perpetrating the crime of the century, and in the case of Obasanjo, nothing short of a bandit's bullet will stop him from running his big mouth and spewing unsolicited advice at every turn. Hopefully that long overdue culling will come sooner rather than later.

All those big bellied pigs like obasanjo really need to be culled, they are murderous pests. What he is doing is imposing puppets that will turn a blind eye to his atrocities on nigerian and making sure his tracks are covered, hence his freedom today even with all his crimes against humanity.

Correct. pointless looking towards Jonathan for salvation. He is another dull , average and compromised politician who will be teleguided by the interests of his kingmakers. We must focus on 2011 and ensure our vote counts. Nigerians will need to look at all the candidates produced by all political parties. They must then pragmatically vote for the 'lesser of all evil' if they are left with no choice due to the lack of democracy within most Nigerian political parties .

In 2007 we had Yar Adua , Buhari and Atiku. Even a semi-thorough look at those men and their history in office should have show most Nigerians that , of the candidates presented,  Buhari should have become the President of Nigeria in 2007. I am no fan of Buhari but I feel that , even accounting for his faults , he was far better equiped to lead Nigeria forward than Yar Adua or Atiku.

Wether we like it or not, average individuals , like most of us on Nairaland,  have no say in how political parties choose their presidential candidates so it will be pointless pining for Donald Duke, Utomi, Ribadu , El Rufai or Fashola if those men will not be made the candidates of strong political parties . We must simply choose the best candidate from what we are presented with. What is sure is that we can trust the criminal PDP to produce a business-as-usual stooge like Yar Adua who will ensure Nigeria stagnates while the leeches feed fat.

If that was to be the case and Goodluck Jonathan concur with Obasanjo's instruct, then he is not fit for ASO rock. I think all he has to do is reform the electoral system which will render Obasanjo and his goons useless. But he is ready for a fresh start? can Jonathan dust himself from the very PDP-fabric that made him what he is today? if he can, then we have our man.

Imeobong:

The plot to sabotage the Acting President, Goodluck Jonathan may have taken a more desperate and deadly twists as the principal actors have now put together a whooping N6Billion for the ‘stop Goodluck’ project.

On Tuesday the Presidential spokesman, Ima Niboro in a statement said there were grand designs by those he tagged ‘ungodly and wicked’ to pull down the administration of Jonathan. On Thursday a national daily (The Sun) carried a front page smear campaign flavored with sundry baseless accusations, innuendoes and allegations all in an apparent attempt to undermine the integrity of the Acting President.
The plot, sources hinted Pointblanknews.com, is to ensure a return to the status quo( Yar’Adua), protect their positions, avert possible prosecutions, and avoid any look in skeleton laden closets. Pointblanknews.com learnt that between December 2009 and January 2010, billion naira contracts have been awarded or renewed by some ministers and head of agencies without recourse to Jonathan while he was Vice President.
Culled from http://www.pointblanknews.com/os2926.html

Please dont believe this story as the Sun-Newspaper have been paid to publish conflicting information concerning the Actting President thier headlines for the past 6 days have been so misleading, after the failure of the House of Reps deligate in Saudi Arabia and the FEC decision to send 6-man delegation to Saudi, they came up with this Headline:  Why Nigerians Can’t See Yar’adua –reps  which was just a fabricated story by the cabals to justify why Yar-adua could not be seen by the Reps members and why the 6-man FEC deligate will also fail. And this information was not confirm by any other paper, it was only in the Sun-Newspaper
If I can remember, the Sun_Newspaper from the onset have always been publishing storys that looks like fairy tales: FATHER SLEEPS WITH MOTHER-IN-LAW, MAN BE-HEAD STEP-MOTHER, 29 YEAR OLD MAN IMPREGNATE SISTER etc   etcc

Look at this one again ('you Cannot Run In 2011' Obasanjo Tells Jonathan ) OBJ said this? and no other Paper have report it, so he said it only to Sun_Newspaper? In short I don't believe this story.

Re: 'you Cannot Run In 2011' Obasanjo Tells Jonathan by Nobody: 6:38pm On Feb 21, 2010
Anybody who believe's the Sun had access to the secret meeting between OBJ and Jonathan will believe anything.

More than anything this is a speculation to get OBJ to state publicly what his position is on the rotational policy.

The essence of the Rotational Presidency is to make everybody feel included in the process of Governance. But if the rotational process ends up leaving some sections of the country excluded then it defeats the purpose in the first place. It took 50years to have someone with Jonathan's background to come close to leadership, am not sure the next time this will be the case. But our country would murder equity and justice if Jonathan is stampeded out of office.

Let us support the man to deliver on his promise of electricity generation. If he delievers and decides that he personally is not interested in running, then anybody can zone power to Niger Republic if they like. For now lets chill. 15months is too long to be talking about the next President instead of what we can do for the Nigerian people.

A lot of noise has been made on who loves this country most. It is time to show that our belief in ONE Nigeria is based egalitarianism.

I dont believe this story and if it is anything to go by, then my greatest fear is that Nigeria as a nation is in more serious problem than we envisaged.

OBJ would be indirectly telling Jonathan to loot as much as he can.  My own idea has been that Jonathan may do well just to pave his way to clinch the seat by 2011, wherefore he is not sure of  that seat, he would loot Nigeria sick before 2011.

And the problem is with the National Anthem

ARISE Oh compatriot
Nigerias' call obey
and OBJ and his cohort think they are among always.

Stark animals.

A typical response from a bush cow ! ! If the boded part of that comment is someone's point of view then i had to wonder how you made your way to the keyboard ? In reality you are advocating "rotational presidency" which has anti democratic connotations. I would think Nigeria can never see light with millions of ethnocentric folks only concerned with regional representation instead of getting things done.

Buhari is too old to ditch his lifelong principles in favour of Government money; he knows he can't take cash money to heaven  grin

He's biased & weak when handing policy issues, that's his problem. He puts up that tough guy, anti-corruption front, but has a shitty attitude to certain very sensitive matters of National significance. like Sharia for example. plus he's a sucker for the Arewa Mafia
