The Rivers state governor Nyesom Wike has said that the South-South and the South-East region are the most marginalized region in Nigeria. Wike speaking during a meeting with 11 governors from the regions in Port Harcourt over the weekend said there are no 'reasonably' functional seaports and airports in the zones. Decrying the state of federal roads, the Rivers state governor said, the regions must strive to overcome all the challenges by sharing resources. Wike also said that the South-South and the South-East region are the most neglected in the country.
He said:“From geo-strategic economic perspective therefore, there is an urgent need to establish and link our cities with railways and superhighways; to provide viable and affordable flight services between our cities, and to ensure that cargoes are brought into the country and the regions through our seaports, jetties and ferry services as a veritable means of stimulating economic growth and social progress across our two regions."“Also, we are all aware that economic growth and social progress are possible only in a peaceful and secure environment," Wike said. The governor also called for the devolution of powers and resources to state and the institutionalization of state police.
Also speaking, the chairman of the South-South and South-East Governors' Forum Emmanuel Udom said the meeting is a new beginning for the regions. Udom said the presence of federal activities is not experienced in the regions. He also called for a creation of an industrial framework that will enhance regional development. Udom said:“Federal presence in the region is minimal and only seen in the presence of policemen."

The entire South South and South East has suffered much in the hands of this government that care less for the region.The federal roads from Port Harcourt to Enugu, Delta to Okene and the yet to be completed East west road is in deplorable condition. The roads have become death traps with multiple accident daily which cost both human life and material

Jonathan who was President for over six years achieved nothing other than drinking ogogoro in Aso Rock while neglecting the region he came from.
I'm not surprised if Buhari approve a railway to be built to Daura his hometown because at the end of his tenure he will give account of his stewardship to his people.

Jonathan is a complete failure that should be stoned wherever he steps his toes in the south south and south east region.

Posterity will be his judge even after he exit this earth.

It is a media battle between the Yorubas who have controlled the media for years and Igbos who are coming on strong to have a huge chunk in the media propaganda too.

After the civil war, the Federal Govt declared 'Abandoned properties' as war booty for the victors.
Surprisingly while Awolowo encouraged the South South people to seize Biafrans properties as war booty to create enmity between them and the Igbos, the properties of Ndigbo were returned to them in his Yorubaland. The North also returned properties owned by returning Igbos.
While the South South were busy scrambling over Igbo abandoned properties, the North and Yoruba officials shared out Oil blocks in the South South to themselves.
While the North got majority of the Oil blocks the Yorubas were appointed as managers of the petroleum sector because of their educational advantage.
Thats why for instance Alakija who used to be a tailor is today the richest woman in Africa from her Oil block allocation while the women in South South are still living in squalor with their waters polluted and making it difficult for them to even catch enough fishes to sell for sustenance.

One of the South South leading women (Diezani Alison-Madueke) who benefited from their God given oil and by virtue of her marriage to an Igbo man is being hounded by Yoruba led media assault on corruption charges and accused of stealing more than Nigerias total annual budget while all the Yorubas like Femi Otedola Mike Adenuga etc involved in the oil subsidy scam etc are roaming free because they succeeded in scuttling the National Assembly probe into their nefarious activities.

Nnamdi Kanu has used his media to open the eyes of the youths in the Niger Delta and the center can no longer hold.
Igbos will continue to defend Diezani (Charly Boy can continue with his Mumu protests against her) from corruption allegations until Yorubas, Hausas and Fulanis who have controlled the oil industry are equally indicted. The Igbos will not continue to standby while our neighbours in the South South leave in squalor while all the resources come from their land and they expect us to join them in persecuting Patience Jonathan or Diezani (no way)!

Nairaland provides a platform for part of the media battle and very soon the real South South youths will merge with Igbos when they realize that the marginalized Igbos are not their enemies and as they continue to get wiser against the Yorubas manipulation.
