BARELY 72 hours after Mr. Patrick Aisien was suspended as the chairman of Orihiomwon Local Government Area of Edo State by the state government, his 18-year old son, Uyi, was at the early hours of yesterday abducted

while returning home from University of Benin, UNIBEN where he is a 500-level Industrial Mathematics student.

Sunday Vanguard gathered that the suspected kidnappers accosted the young man on a motor-bike he was riding at the time of the incident.

It was learnt that the abductors have made contact with the family demanding for a ransom of N50 million.

Chief Press Secretary to the suspended chairman, Rafiu Amule, while confirming the kidnap incident, said the family was in contact with the abductors who asked them to take the ransom to a place in Bayelsa State.

He added that the family has contacted security agencies in the Edo State, but said that the family was not ruling out the opposition from the kidnap incident as it came at a time when the chairman was trying to get his mandate back.

Family sources said that the abducted Uyi had always maintained a low profile in school and only those close to the family knew him as the son of a local government chairman.

The chairman could not talk to the press as he was said to be in shock.

He was suspended last Wednesday by the Oshiomhole-led government of Edo State over allegations of financial misconduct but he had vowed to employ legal means to reclaim his mandate.

How can an 18 year old boy be a 500 level student? . Did he enter university at 13?

Perhaps the journalists published the wrong details.

I think politicians should now start saving for ransom.
This is a business opportunity of some sort too.
Insurance coys should think of providing kidnapping covers for locals,
I understand most MNC's in the delta have related covers-terrorism and business disturbance covers
for top senior mgt expartrates.
