At the start of this season of Game of Thrones, I wrote about its relevance to us all, comparing it to our situation as Nigerians. This kind of writing is possible because the world of the series is one of high fantasy. The easiest comparison is the world of Lord of the Rings. There’s good and evil playing out on a cosmic scale, and characters taking sides to battle it out in the name of both, with many going on quests to reach an end that is often good. Now that we’ve finally seen the full powers of the Night King, who, aided by the changed Vicerion, has crushed the wall, we finally understand the scale of danger coming to the seven kingdoms.There’s an urgency to this danger, as illustrated by the fate we expect to befall Tormund Giantsbane and Beric Dondarrion. This urgency has forced characters to take action, and form alliances, whether holy or unholy. Speaking of unholy alliances, it seems we are all cool with incest now.
