Though the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has zoned its national chairmanship position to
South West, the chances of the region getting the much-coveted position at its elective convention scheduled for December is being challenged by some groups in the party, INDEPENDENT has learnt.

According to credible sources in the party, those against the position coming to South West are citing the disunity in the zone which has pitched key leaders against themselves and are also considering what they call ‘the Obasanjo factor’, which they believe is very crucial in determining who leads the party to battle in the 2019 general elections.

Amongst those who have indicated interest in the position are Chief Olabode George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the party; former Ogun State Governor, Olugbenga Daniel and former Minister of Education, Prof. Tunde Adeniran. It is not clear whether Jimi Agbaje, a former governorship candidate of the party in Lagos during the 2015 election, is still interested in the race.

The decision by the party to hold the national convention was taken at the last non-elective convention in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), following the botched convention in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

During the botched convention, there was acrimony between supporters of Bode George and Agbaje. While many of the PDP governors, who were advocating fresh blood and a
much younger person was rooting for Agbaje, the majority of the members of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) and elders queued behind George

Vote the "candidate" not the "party"...

When we vote (2019), we will vote integrity, credibility and accountability, vote personality vote " detribalized"...

The last time we voted a "party" instead of "candidate", we ended up with a dullard... ..can't remember which year tho

If I were PDP I will support the idea of not to young to run and elect younger persons so as to give them an edge over APC in 2019.
If Kenya can get it right by electing a less than 30 years old man as Lawmaker then Nigerian can also get it right too.

Bode George or anyone older than 45 years should go and sleep and pass the ball to a younger person.
