ICAN Fellow, Adewale Ajayi, emerges the new Akarigbo of Remo Sola / 39 minutes ago Samuel Awoyinfa, Abeokuta A new candidate for the stool of the Akarigbo of Remoland has emerged. He is Prince Babatunde Adewale Ajayi. The newly elected Akarigbo is a barrister and a chartered accountant. He was elected on Thursday through an open ballot held among the seven kingmakers at the Akarigbo’s palace, Sagamu. Ajayi polled five votes, as against two votes by the runner up, Prof. Babatunde Ogunmola. Nineteen princes were said to have contested the exalted position, but the remaining 17 nominees had no vote. The election was supervised by the Secretary to the Sagamu Local Government, Otunba Adewale Fakoya; who read the names of the 19 nominees to the kingmakers, requesting them to cast their votes for the candidate of their choice. The names of the kingmakers are Chief Rasak Akinyemi Salami (Lisa), Chief Abdul Wasiu Awofala (Losi), Chief Taiwo Sule ( Oluwo Odofin), Chief Lamidi Olaitan Adesanya (Apena), Chief Ogunyemi Tijani Adesina (Ogbeni odi), Chief Kolawole Odumuyiwa ( Balogun)and Olotu Omoba Jas Adekunle ( Olotu Omoba Akarigbo). The statement released by the management of the Sagamu Local Government on the election read in part, “The result of the election revealed that Prince Adewale Ajayi emerged the new Akarigbo of Remoland, with five votes; Prof. Babatunde Ogunmola had two votes, while other 17 nominees had no vote. “The newly elected Akarigbo is a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, a chartered accountant and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria. “After the election, Chief Abdul Wasiu Awofala (Losi) moved the motion to forward the name of the elected Akarigbo to the government and this was seconded by the Chief Kolawole Odumuyiwa(Balogun). The Ogun State Commissioner for Local and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Jide Ojuko, confirmed the emergence of Ajayi as the newly elected Akarigbo of Remoland. Ojuko said Ajayi polled five votes, as against two votes by the runner up, Prof. Babatunde Ogunmola in an election conducted by the kingmakers. He expressed satisfaction with the nomination and election processes, which he said, were peaceful, adding that installation date would be announced very soon. “It is true that a candidate has been elected as the new Akarigbo of Remoland. He is Prince ‘Tunde Ajayi. “I am happy the processes have been peaceful, I mean both the nomination and selection. And very soon, the installation date will be announced.” Ajayi succeeds the late Akarigbo, Oba Michael Sonariwo, who joined his ancestors in July 2016.
