Kinsmen view act as ‘generational curse’

Suspect insists it was politically motivated

 North local government area of Anambra state escaped death by a whisker when he was reportedly beaten to a pulp by angry youths for allegedly attempting to rape a six-year-old girl.
Although, accounts of what transpired on that fateful Monday night of August 28 at the suspect’s country home is still subject of controversy, Orient Daily gathered that the victim

was an unnamed young girl from Agbudu town but residing in Ndiowu under the care of her maternal grandfather.

According to a village source, the bizarre incident began to unravel when the man, who was on visit home from his Abuja base, allegedly invited the victim, alongside three other children, to his house so he could take them through some academic lessons. He had taken the children through some academic quiz session from which he concluded that they were good and likely to benefit from a little coaching from him in order to make them better.

The six-year-old girl, who testified before the suspect, security operatives and other residents gathered at the scene, reportedly declared that the suspect organised several quizzes for them openly, but, later, went into his room, ordering the unsuspecting children to bring their answers to him in the room one after the other.

Things took a different twist when it was the turn of the victim. When the girl went in to show her supposed tutor her work, he requested her to sit on his laps, a request she childishly declined. The suspect, the victim alleged, forcefully placed her on his lap, allegedly pulled out his manhood and was on the verge of penetrating her from her rear quarters when she struggled to break loose.

It was the noisy struggle by the girl that attracted one of the other children who reportedly dashed into the room only to behold the uneven scuffle between the duo. The shocked boy reportedly raised an alarm which attracted the attention of the people in the neighbourhood, including youths. The youths swooped on the premises in question, dragged the suspect out and began to give him the beating of his life.

Orient Daily gathered that the embittered youths pounced on the suspect, stripped him naked and continually flogged him with machetes until the vigilante operatives arrived at the scene to rescue him from possible lynching. He was handed over to the police the

next day.
The head of the community’s

vigilante group, who simply identified himself as ‘pastor’, confirmed that the suspect was rescued from the angry youths and eventually handed over to the police. He further disclosed that the suspect was later released from police custody on Wednesday, August 30, follow- ing a no case request by the girl’s grandfather.

Meanwhile, further investigation revealed that the suspect had, allegedly, been caught in the act of sexually molesting a minor in the federal capital territory, Abuja where he lives. Following the incident, he was reportedly forced to vacate his residence at Jekwoi, Abuja.

Some of his kinsmen also informed Orient Daily that the suspect’s late father was also known to have raped a minor during his life time, alleging that paedophilia could, indeed, be a generational curse run- ning on the family’s bloodline.

However, a source close to the embattled insists that the latest sexcapade with a mi- nor was a political setup engineered by the man’s political enemies to tarnish his image in the village. The source argued that the fact that the village youths were nearby as at the time of the alleged rape incident was a strong indication that it was, indeed, contrived.

“The fact that this scandal broke out soon after he fell out with a faction of the community’s leadership is a strong indication that it was a setup and not ordi- nary,” the source disclosed.

Attempts to reach the suspect for his own side of the story proved abortive as at press time as he was said to have re- turned to his base soon after he regained his freedom from the police custody.
