A Nigerian refugee living in Italy offered to help carry home a 75-year old woman's groceries, but upon arriving at her home, he beat and raped her.

The story was reported by Corriere, an Italian-based news outlet. They report a 26-year old man, who was seeking asylum in Italy under refugee status, approached an elderly 75-year old woman at the supermarket. The refugee was apparently posing as a beggar outside the supermarket upon his encounter with the woman. After persuading her to allow him to help him carry her groceries home for her, he followed the elderly woman home.

While they reached her house, the 26-year old refugee entered the woman's home and proceeded to beat her into submission, then rape her.

Corriere.it reports that the 26-year old refugee was arrested by the Carabinieri, an Italian military police force, after the supposed husband of the victim reported the crime to police. The woman was admitted to the Acquaviva delle Fonti obstetrics and gynecology department.
