sadGrowing a thick and rugged beard or a moustache, especially when those two connect, takes perseverance and patience. The growth rate on your beard depends on a number of factors, including your individual testosterone level and genetics.

However, there are some simple steps you can take every day to help along the growing process. You just need to stay committed to the process and not get discouraged.

1. Take care of your body

This is super important as your facial hair condition is in direct relation to the health of your body. So how do you take good care of your body? Good eating habits help stimulate hair growth, and the foods that help do this are proteins (poultry meat, eggs, fish, beans, yoghurt, milk and cheese), nuts and seeds, fruits and greens like cabbage and lettuce. Exfoliate once a week to remove the dead cells on your face and stimulate hair growth. Make sure you keep your face as clean as possible every day. Rinse your face with warm water and mild soap twice a day. Clean facial skin encourages tiny hairs to grow. Reduce the stress in your life as it can kill your hair growth and all the effort you have put into it. Exercise to improve the circulation of blood in your body. And make sure you always get a full night’s rest.

2. Commit to the process

Many men give up on the process of growing their beard just as progress is being made. When growing your beard, you may come to the point where the skin will become very itchy. It can be very discomforting and this makes a lot of people shave the hairs that have grown off. But you have to be willing to keep on for at least four weeks for the hair to grow, even though the uncontrollable itching persists. After these four weeks, the hairs will soften and the itching will subside.

3. Eat foods with minerals and vitamins

You need to eat healthy food to grow a healthy beard. Supplement your diet with the appropriate minerals and vitamins. Try to take at least 2mg of biotin each day. The supplement will help to increase both the growth of your nails and your facial hair. Also, incorporate more vegetables and fruits in your diet, they are rich in the minerals and vitamins that the hair needs in order to grow more rapidly. Without the appropriate nutrients in your body, hair growth will be slow. Also increase your daily intake of vitamin B6, beta-carotene, vitamin C, flax seed oil, vitamin E and multivitamins. However, don’t overdo it with these supplements. Speak with your doctor and explain to them which you will be taking so they can work with you to create a well-rounded and safe supplement routine.

4. Leave your beard alone

In the first month of growing your beard, you will find that it looks like a wild forest growing on your face, and you may be tempted (or coaxed by others) into trimming and shaping it. Bad idea. Resist the urge to do any grooming whatsoever. Don’t trim. Don’t shape. Don’t cut any hairs. Let it be. It may be difficult to understand, but your beard will grow faster if you will simply leave it alone. Really. You can start to shape after, and only after 4-6 weeks. Forget the old wives tale about trimming the hair makes it grow thicker and darker and faster. Currently, there is zero scientific evidence that supports those claims. The hair is going to be stiff those first few weeks, you just need to wait until the point that it softens, then you can clean it up any way you prefer.

5. Work with your beard

You need to understand that your facial hair is not like the hair on your head. When you start growing your beard, the hairs simply will not fill in every single spot on the face where the beard will be no matter how hard you try. The only way to work around this issue is to let the beard grow long enough that it fills in and hides any bare spots that you may have. Your genetics will determine where and how many spots will have no hair, so don’t get discouraged if you see full growth in one area and nothing in another. Once the hairs have grown in full, you can easily change the style to a moustache with a thinner beard or go with a goatee.

These five steps are designed to help you to encourage hair growth. Resist shaving the entire beard each week hoping that will encourage new growth. Cutting too soon will begin slowing down the growth process. Let it grow a month, trim and shape it and then it will grow quickly from there.

More beards to your chin, handsome men out there! cool
