Lately there have several tidings respecting people that return money paid to their accounts erroneously. These pieces of news is often followed with encomiums and praises from readers who view the act as commendable. In my book, the cult is insulting as it is an affront to my intelligence and a slap in the face of every Nigerian of discerning mind. Chances are high that those returning the money only do so because they know they will be caught and disgraced ultimately. This is truer given the advent of BVN coupled with the fact that most of the payments were made to their salary accounts. This may also lead to their dismissal as it smacks of insincerity on their part for failing to report such. It also casts aspersions on their probity. So the practice of praising those persons is uncalled for. They are only, in the main, afraid of the consequences that may follow. If the majority of them could take the sums and are guaranteed of not being caught, they might not return it or may do so reluctantly. I have returned several sums without fuss.. |

I think they should be praised, especially when you consider the lady in one African school like that who went on a shopping spree after she got erroneously credited. The authorities in charge never found out until an amebo friend of hers reported her for her outrageous spendings and new found lavish lifestyle. So that they returned it without undue pressure, is enough to guarantee them praise. 1 Like |
