The Carine E and Camry both have the same reputation for reliability. Your friend advised you against buying a Carina, but did he give any reasons? Is he an engineer?

The Carina's more of a cut-down version of the larger Camry. Mechanically, both cars are similar, though the Camry had a larger range of engines, including V6 models, which the Carina doesn't. Carina E was only available with I4 engines.

I guess your choice will boil down to cost, options fitted as standard to both cars, and size. So, "better" here depends on which car suits your everyday needs.
