Ahead of the 2019 Governorship Election in Rivers State, thousands of people from the Local Government Areas (Eleme, Tai, Khana,Gokana) that make up the Ogoni Ethnic Nationality Tuesday night shut down the Rivers State Government House, Port Harcourt in a show of support and endorsement for the re-election of Governor Nyesom Wike.

The endorsement of Gov.Wike who hails from Ikwerre, same tribe with the former governor of Rivers State who ruled the state for eight years is coming amidst rumours that a top politician from the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC from Ogoni is also perfecting plans to dislodge Gov.Wike from the Government House.

The group which was made up of mainly supporters and members of the Peoples’ Democratic Party,PDP from the Ogoni axis of the state declared that they were impressed by the excellent performance of Governor Wike, especially his developmental projects in Ogoniland.

Addressing the troop of supporters at the Open Field of the Government House, Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike assured that his administration will enhance development in Ogoniland.

He said: "Be assured that I will implement all the projects I promised the people of Ogoni. I am overwhelmed by this show of support. This massive support is a show of your appreciation of what we have achieved.
" We will tackle issues of development on a local government by local government basis. In this wise, I will meet with each of the four local government areas that make up Ogoniland ".

The governor said that the dialogue with the different Ogoni local government areas will lead to the implementation of projects on the peculiarities of each council.

Eminent Politicians from Ogoni who were present at the event included Senator Lee Maeba, Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Sir Kenneth Kobani, Former Commissioner of Finance, Dr Fred, former Commissioner of Chieftaincy Affairs, Dr John Bazia, and an Ogoni Woman Leader, Chief Priscilla Bekwe

The Ogoni PDP Leaders explained that the solidarity rally was a clear indication that Ogoni is predominantly PDP. The Leaders who also insisted that the December 10, 2016 rerun election was rigged in favour of the APC in the area vowed that they would resist any further attempt to shortchange the collective will of the people.
