Pls help, my boy at 21 months is yet to start calling daddy or mama, should i be worry or its normal. he hears simple instruction but his speech is not yet clear . most times he use gestures like pointing finger to express himself.

he has good coordination in the ff areas.

he can eat by himself by using spoon
he can call our attention when he wants to urinate
he can use tv remote
he wants to make attempts to switch off socket when PHCN takes light
he picks of shoes when going out of the room
he picks the mob when he spill water on the floor or the broom when the food pieces drop on the floor.

It's normal, there are some children that are late speakers, it does not mean anything is wrong, Just give him time, buy all those cartoons and ABC songs for Children, always put it for him, he will pick up fast.

OP, you might just take him to see a pediatrician to get some assurance. My neighbor's son didn't say mama or baba till he was 4 yrs o. He kept repeating a class for two years before they moved him forward. The day I heard him talk, I had goose bumps...I almost broke his bones when I hugged him so tight. Everybody was worried for him cos he could point fingers for Africa. His big sis was his mouth piece then.

Is he your first child? First, children imitate what their parents do. How much do you and your husband communicate? How much do u talk? How much do you play with this kid? A child is most likely to repeat what you say. Secondly, do you allow him play with his peers? Also put on cartoons for him, he's almost two. He'll try to mimick what they say. Try that. Lastly, just pray for your Son. Nothing is wrong with him.

if he is the first child, he will start talking late. he must mix with other kids which his while u should be in playgroup now. also you have to call your husband "daddy" in his presence and always point at yout husband. your husband must do likewise. i did that for about 6 days before my son got the trick. n when he starts calling daddy n mummy, you must answer so he knows he is getting ur attention.

Madam u have nothing to fear about. He will surely talk. He's not up to 2yrs old. Buy him cartoons especially the musical ones. Let him mingle with his mates.

Calm down! he go talk. simply register him in a school. kids tend to learn better from other kids. My mum said she started talking at d age of five. I worked in a mission hospital with an orphanage at Awka. I love staying and playing with d kids. many haven't started talking, so after taking their temperatures, treating d sick, I then organise lesson classes for them, from there some started picking their first words. U can also help him by running to hug daddy whenever he is back and calling daddy oyoyo, or daddy is back continuously and watch him pick up.

Thank u all for the reply. he is my second child ,the first is a girl, the age difference is 6years. we sometimes allow him to mingle with other kids. even one of the girl in other flat born after him like a month difference has started talking.

He's probably just shocked that he's a Nigerian.... Give him time he will speak. �

Seriously just watch out for anything that particularly excites him, it could be a cartoon, dogs, a particular music or a toy. Call out the name of that thing to him loudly and you will see marked improvement.

Just talk to him,like you would with an adult. Allow him play with your friend's kids/you enrol him in a creche,with these,I believe he'll talk in no time.
