Wayne Rooney was yesterday banned from driving for two years after he pleaded guilty to being almost three times over the limit while driving a motor vehicle and carrying a female passenger, and putting other road users at risk.

He has been spotted slumped down in the passenger seat of a Range Rover as he arrived Everton’s Finch Farm for training this morning.

The former England captain issued a grovelling apology yesterday after he was given a two-year ban for being almost three times the drink-drive limit when he was stopped at the wheel of a car with a Laura Simpson, a woman he had just met in a nightclub.

Wayne Rooney’s two-year drink-drive ban could end up costing him nearly £500,000.

The striker was fined two weeks’ wages – totalling £320,000 – by Everton for the offence – the former England skipper was also given a 12-month community order and 100 hours community service at court on Monday.

This excludes the bill of up to £120,000 that having a chauffeur drive him to and from Everton’s training ground will cost him.
