Israeli President Faces Indictment on Charges

In Israel, an indicted President is advised to resign even before he appears in court.

In Nigeria, an indicted Vice-president refuses to resign, but rather want to contest forthcoming election as a Presidential candidate.

Are there any lessons Nigerian voters and indicted politicians may learn from the recent events in Israel?

Your views!!!

why didnt the EFCC indict OBJ? every body knows he has stolen billions from nigeria and the facts are there, why didnt the EFCC indict Anenih for stealing billions of naira? why is Bode George a free man? what about Nasiru Mantu? why is Andy Uba not indicted?billions have been spent on NEPA yet there is still no adequate supply of power why didnt the EFCC investigate that?what about all the contracts that were given out in rehabilitating the refinaries that never saw the light of the day? why is the EFCC not investigating that too, what about the billions of naira that was used for the 3rd term project?why wasnt it investigated ?we all know that if Atiku had not opposed 3rd term agenda he would have still been glorified just as the likes of bode george, tony anenih, andy uba and the rest of them. OBJ's battle against corupption is not in the interest of nigerians,he is just fighting his enemies which we all know.OBJ has no right to say who is corrupt and who isnt because as we all know he is the most corrupt of all.transperancy international still maintains that most of nigerians corruption takes place in the presidency which OBJ is the head

Why should OBJ and his friends steal billions of naira and prosecute others for stealing millions? If OBJ wants to fight corruption he should be corrupt free else he shouldnt because he is not better than all the people he is fighting, why should OBJ come out in public and say that his boy(Gbenga Daniel) has commited pardonable theft and Chris Ngege should be stoped from contesting? I just don't get this. OBJ openly said that the EFCC should vist the former minister (Mimiko) because he refused to follow his advice and not contest the gubernotorial elections. why is the name of the guy that is contesting against OBJ's daughter on the list of indicted people even though reports have stated he has never held any public office before. what kind of madnes is that?this was the same guy that was attacked and shot in the head for contesting against OBJ's daughter. we will never accept double standard.OBJ is a mad man that has no interest of nigerians in his mind we all know it and we will never accept his fight against corruption because it is purely on a personal basis which is not in the interest of the nation.OBJ being very very corrupt has no right to tell us who is corrupt and who isnt.

Here we go again, OBJ, OBJ, OBJ, AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Are you aware that OBJ will cease to be President in April 2007?

OBJ has a constitutional duty to perform before his exit and he has chosen to do it without fear or favor. You can continue to question his rights, but the fact is that the constitution of Nigeria which was drafted before most of you were born gave him so much power.

Who dear question his authority if he choses to exercise powers bestowed on him by the constitution. That to me is a part of democracy. If he chose to disqualify those he has genuine reasons to believe are corrupt, we must all accept it and move forward.

The other matters are history as he will be out in a few days.

did the constitution of nigeria allow him to use the efcc as a weapon to fight his enemies? does OBJ believe in nigeria' s constitution? if he does he wont remove governors unconstitutionaly. the constitution said u are free until proven guilty by a competent court of law but OBJ is saying other wise .its not about constitution or anything its about competence and OBJ lacks it totally.

THE POSITION OF THE CONSTITUTION

INDICTED: You are free until proven guilty by a competent court of law. (OK ACCEPTED)

ELECTION: You are disqualified if you are indicted.

If the court acquits you, then you can contest election or else you remain disqualified  Court cases can last days, months or years and an election cannot wait just until some nasty criminals can prove their innocence hence the constitution was drafted to address these electoral issues.

People must try to understand there are two issues here. OBJ is given the power by the constitution to enforce this. It's probably never been done before and I can understand the anger in people. Don't worry, OBJ is right, we will all get to praise him in future for this bold act. Remember he gave our fathers UDOGI SALARY BONUS AWARDS in the 70's and no other President has ever done same.

Funny that I have become a legal teacher in this forum. Guys consult your lawyers please. I give up!
