History was made last Friday, 15th, September 2017 at Holy Ghost Foundation schools Abakiliki as Deborah Uzoma, a corps member with Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation, EBBC carried out a short story writing competition for public and private secondary school Students on the theme :’What I have in my hands ‘as part of her personal Community Development Service (CDS) project .

In her speech, Deborah who is a graduate of English and literary studies Imo State University said that she believes in the saying that people are remembered by the memories they left behind and that’s why she has decided to embark on talent hunt for secondary school students to create words of excellence that will transform the Nation into a better society so that by the time they leave that stage, they will be remembered by what they did .

Miss Deborah recounted her challenges of some schools not releasing their students to participate in the writing.She however called on spirited individuals to assist her in financial funds for the gift items to the students and other project she has at hand .

In her remarks, the representative of the State Cordinator NYSC Ebonyi State, Mrs. Josephine Isu disclosed the importance of Community Development Service programme and it’s usefulness to the immediate community. She commended Deborah for putting up a giant stride amongst other project she has for the community as well thanking the participating schools for attending the writing competition .
Representing the Director General of EBBC, Mr. John Igwe described Deborah as a hard working, committed and purpose driven person who is under her supervision at EBBC. Mr. John encouraged that writing should be placed in the academic pursuit of school children as a worthwhile and healthy exercise.

The chief Examiner for the short story writing contest ,Mr. Sylvester Oko emphasised on the importance of reading and writing amongst school children .He charged them to be committed to the things that will enable them grow up and shun all devices that will set them off the track as well assuring them for a fair mark of their script.
In their responses, a student from faith world International Schools, Vanessa Nteh stated that she was very happy to partake in the writing as it has motivated her zeal in writing and reading good books. From Girls High School, Azuiyiokwu, Nwanko Valentina expressed her happiness as she sat for the competition to express her ideas in words.
