IPOB has been relying on sympathy from western nations, especially the US, to help their secessionist agenda.

As Iraqi Kurds are set to vote on independence from Iraq next week, the US firmly opposes the referendum, a reversal in posture as the US has long supported the Kurds, even to the detriment of US-Turkish relations.

US Department of State spokeswoman Heather Nauert issued a stern statement on Wednesday, urging the Iraqi Kurdistan regional government not to hold a vote for their independence.

“The United States strongly opposes the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government’s referendum on independence, planned for September 25,” Nauert said. “All of Iraq’s neighbors, and virtually the entire international community

The Kurds of Iraq are voting in a non binding referendum on the 25th September, all major western nations oppose the referendum except Israel. This is ironic since according to IPOB, the rights to self determination is enshrined in the UN charter. The Kurds have been fighting for independence since the first world war.

On Monday, the Iraqi Parliament vowed to send troops to disputed areas in northern Iraq that controlled by Peshmerga forces, a military force of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

Parliament demands that the head of the army [PM Haider al-Abadi] deploy forces in all of the zones the autonomous region of Kurdistan has taken control of since 2003,” the parliament demanded in a released resolution.

Turkey has also vow to use military might to stop Kurdish independence.

In effect if Kurdistan uniterally declares independence, then Iraq would plunged into another round of civil war. This time it would be intricately complex with ISIS and other terror groups in the fray. The Kurds only have the support of Israel.

Thereby rendering them minority citizens of four different countries.

The Kurds would ve been used and dumped by the Americans at the end of the civil war in Syria....The lesson to be learnt is ;choose ur wars and allies wisely...
