The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, has said the current Federal Government was unaware that the United States, US, government was monitoring some Ministers who served under the administration of the immediate past President, Goodluck Jonathan.
Addressing State House Correspondents at the Presidential villa, in Abuja, yesterday, Onyeama said the US government was listening to the telephone conversations of some of Jonathan’s Ministers on some “suspicious” investments made in the country.
The Minister further noted that the current government was making efforts to recover stolen funds stashed away in foreign countries.
“On the issue of how much is stolen from the country, it’s an ongoing thing, we have been discovering all the time because you see the sophistication that there is today in hiding money around the world is amazing, even western countries themselves have a lot of problems and it takes them a lot of time and they discovered about the Panama papers, nobody knew about all those funds illegally stashed until you suddenly have the revelations under the Panama papers. So it’s really an ongoing thing and then new ones coming up all the time.
“As you saw recently we never knew about the US eavesdropping on some telephone conversations of members of the previous government and private sectors talking about investments that were made in the United States, it just suddenly came out like that, so it’s an ongoing thing.”

Why won't the US be monitoring them?

When these ministers were transferring American money, they do not know that America will know about it.

America was pretending she doesn't know when these ministers were stealing their money.

Jonathan also knew it.

"If anyone steals $50 billion or $20 billion anywhere America will know, they will tell you where it is; it is their money.” - Goodluck Jonathan
