Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery this afternoon sustained a serious-looking knee injury during his side’s matchup with Hertha Berlin, leading to early fears that the career of the Frenchman could be over.

Pacy wide-man Ribery has been at the Allianz Arena since 2007, when he arrived from French outfit Marseille.

He has since gone on to make over 200 Bundesliga appearances for the Bavarians, racking up an impressive 75 goals in the process.

However, recent years have seen the 81-time capped international struggle with a number of injury problems, with Ribery having managed just 29 league starts across the last three seasons.

He had begun the current campaign in good form, however, starting in 4 of his side’s first 7 Bundesliga outings.

But the former Galatasaray man’s injury troubles have returned in a major way this afternoon, during a clash with Hertha Berlin.

Appearing in their first fixture since the firing of manager Carlo Ancelotti, Bayern took an early lead through Mats Hummels, before Robert Lewandowski doubled their advantage shortly after half-time.

The home side pulled one back in the51st minute, before snatching an unlikely equaliser just five minutes later.

And Bayern’s day went from bad to worse when Ribery went down clutching his knee just past the hour mark, in what looked to be a serious injury.

The French star could immediately be seen to be in a great deal of pain, and was carried to the sidelines by the away side’s medical staff.

Early reports from Sky suggest a torn ACL, which, at 34, could well spell the end of Ribery’s career with the Bavarians, if not the end of his career altogether.
