Do you know that....... • There were 212 million new cases of malaria worldwide in 2015, with 90% of these cases occurring in the WHO Africa Region. • In 2015, there were an estimated 429,000 malaria deaths worldwide, with 92% of these deaths occurring in Africa. • Children under five are particularly susceptible to malaria illness, infection and death. In 2015, malaria killed an estimated 303,000 under-fives globally, including 292,000 children in the African Region. • In 2015, it is estimated that 13 countries accounted for 75% of malaria deaths.2 The global burden of mortality is dominated by countries in sub-Saharan Africa, with Democratic Republic of the Congo and Nigeria together accounting for more than 36% of the global total of estimated malaria deaths.
