And hardware will need to be redesigned to accommodate this kind of speed. |

Hhenryy: Wi-Fi signals doesn't cover long distance already. So lifi making use of line of sight is more or less the same thing. To all of you shouting china this china that. It shows how uninformed you all have. The Chinese have gone far in terms of technology and are of Par with the Americans. The only thing Chinese engineers will tell you they are lacking behind the Americans is in the manufacturing of aircrafts engines. Tell your people to stop asking Chinese companies for low quality goods and you'll enjoy the Chinese products. 2 Likes |

This tech is just bad on so many levels. Ah-ah! Do you guys know the implication of this Lifeless tech? It means all these free floating wifi signal won't be there o. No free browsing unless you enter the person's parlour uninvited. Mchewww... Another limitation is that you can no longer work on the go. You see, with WiFi, you can have your modem in your bag while sending mails or having that important business chat or even in a park but Lifeless tech needs line of sight between modem and device to work. It won't replace WiFi for sure. |

A welcomed development considering how many of us are continually being damaged by harmful electromagnetic rays of wi-fi through our handsets and numerous telecommunication masts. |

Having a fast technology is cool but what it does to the body should also be what we should consider here...already the existing radio waves from the likes of 3G, 4G, Bluetooth,WiFi etc are somewhat responsible for most carcinogenesis we have in the world today. Wireless connectivity like 5G and LiFi may acquire some frequency range similar to the existing microwave oven technology we have today. Lets hope it turns out well for us humans and living organisms we share our planet with. |

Leakdaddy: There is nowhere in this world where Engineers make pencils. Talk anoda one. Besides, not everyone on NL is in Nigeria. BTW, he's right, whether you like it or not. Unless the visible light can go round corners, it won't quite function like Wi-Fi. The transfer rate is astounding, though. I foresee its application In video conferencing, live streaming, and system networking using fibre optics. |

Re: Wi-fi To Be Replaced By Li-fi Soon by Jeezuzpick(m): 8:48am On Oct 05, 2017 |
analryder: Li-fi will be hindered by the fact that light is rectilinear, and its quality diminishes with distance, meaning it travels in straight lines, an be blocked and is not effective over long distances. Microwaves won't be totally replaced soon. 1 Like |

Dottore: What are you on about really? Visible light and radio waves though similar, behave differently because of their frequencies ok but you've failed to mention any part of what I've said and offered any real explanation to counter the argument. And NO they cannot bypass line of sight for visible light. No matter how you innovate, tyres will always be circular. |

And Nigeria is yet to produce pencil |
Re: Wi-fi To Be Replaced By Li-fi Soon by AgentOfAllah: 9:05am On Oct 05, 2017 |
UncleSnr: The innovation here isn't LiFi, it is the synthesis method for the F-CD devices that is Chinese. Below is the abstract from the peer-review publication Here, they demonstrate the optical range of their device by secondarily exciting their carbon quantum dots using violet light emitting semiconductor (wavelength = 395 nm) based on InGaN (Indium gallium nitride) alloys, to produce white light. Their presentation is simply elegant! One thing you will notice about their experimental precursors and materials is that most of them were sourced from Chinese companies (probably at heavily discounted rates too)! This is a great example of the mutually reinforcing cycle between innovation and commerce. Probably also the reason research in Nigeria isn't thriving! You can bet that if/when this technology proves commercially scalable, a Chinese company will be at the forefront of promoting it to the rest of the world. Bottom line: Underestimate the Chinese at your own peril. |

Wi-fi can't be replaced even on new devices, it's either the name is changed or the li-fi or whatever is also a different entity on the device. |
