It seems the parable quote of 'a friend in power is a lost friend' is nothing but factual. You will be surprised that someone who was so much close and friendly, always coming around and calling you, keeping in touch with you every now and then has suddenly stopped doing all that just because not long ago, he has had appointment in position of power. He has totally lost contact with you and seems he doesn't perceive your existence any longer.

Let me cite some examples of what i mean here. The current minister of NDDC, Usani Usani was in the same church with my brother for a very long time. The two were like 5&6 in terms of closeness in friendship even outside church matters. They were passionate about each other so much but today, the NDDC boss seems my brother is a non-existing being. Even when he calls, he wont pick the calls.

Another scenario is the current VC of UniUyo. This one is even from the same village. The man seems to have totally forgotten about all the people he grew up with in the village including relatives of the same family. If someone goes to meet him, the person would seem unrecognizable to him. He would behave like he never knew you from Adams. Lol.

However, these people seem to forget that the power is transient and by and large, they will be unseated someday. For instance, Edem Duke who was a big boy in Abuja during Jonathan's time has since come back to Calabar driving and roaming around town with old friends whom he had forgotten during his days of reign.

Lesson: Power is transient. Absolute power belongs to only God.

When status changes, friends often change too
