An alleged attack by suspected herdsmen in Obodogba community, in Okpanam, Oshimili north local council of Delta state has left six persons dead.

The Guardian reports that farm-crops worth millions of naira were destroyed by the herdsmen’s cows following the attack, which occurred on Thursday, October 5.

The fracas reportedly occurred when some residents of Obodogba community noticed that herdsmen had invaded their farmlands to graze cattle.

The villagers were said to have confronted the herdsmen but were threatened with daggers by the invaders.

NAIJ.com gathered that the herdsmen returned to the same farmlands on Thursday where a fight broke out that left six persons killed.

Community members who confirmed the incident said a petition had been written to the state police command headquarters in Asaba over the alleged invasion by the suspected herdsmen.

Though the police spokesperson in the state denied the attack, police officers at the Okpanam police division, who did not want their names in the print, said two of the herdsmen had been arrested, and were currently helping the police with further investigation.

Meanwhile, the Ndiolumbe Nvosi community of Isiala Ngwa local government in Abia state was thrown in a state of fear after Fulani herdsmen allegedly threatened the community for ejecting cattle from farmlands after two weeks of devastation of crops.

This Day reports that the near fracas between the herdsmen and the community began after over 100 herds of cattle invaded the community farm lands for two week. During the period, the cattle grazed and destroying farm crops of farmers in the area.

The traditional ruler of the agrarian community, HRH Eze Godwin Ogbonna told journalists that unable to bear further destruction of their crops, some youths forced the herds out of the farms.

The monarch said after the herds of cattle were driven out of the farms, a man who gave his name as Mohammed Shuaibu came and threatened the community for ejecting the cattle.
