Yinka Odumakin, National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere on Monday described as outright lies and half-truths the accusation of inconsistency leveled against him by Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC).

Sagay, in an interview granted during the weekend had accused Odumakin, who was spokesperson for President Muhammadu Buhari during the 2011 presidential election of jumping ship and supporting President Goodluck Jonathan because Buhari lost the election.

He also said Odumakin wrote books in favour of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and took part in demonstrations for the party in the build-up to the 2015 elections which PDP eventually lost.

According to Sagay “I think Odumakin is beneath contempt. This is a man who came to my house in 2011 with a greeting card from President Buhari, seeking my support in the Buhari campaign. Then Buhari was in CPC. He spent over two hours in my house. I grilled him”.

“I asked him questions on the criticisms of Buhari. He gave Buhari a clean image in every respect. He said Buhari is the best man for Nigeria. That has always been my view but I just chose to interrogate him”.

“So, he reaffirmed my views of Buhari and we parted on those things that Buhari was our man; only for this Odumakin to somersault in 2014 going towards Goodluck Jonathan and the PDP, writing books in favour of PDP and taking part in demonstrations in favour of PDP. He virtually became the spokesperson of Jonathan and PDP”.

“I have no respect for a man like that who is not consistent in his principles. A man who will say something today and do another thing tomorrow can never command my respect. I have refrained from talking about him all along until he decided to attack me for no just cause. I am saying he is a man for whom I have no iota of regard because he is unprincipled. He is a man who can jump from one group or party to another. He is an AGIP. So, I have nothing to say but contempt for everything about him”.

However, Odumakin who incurred Sagay’s wrath for asking the erudite lawyer to resign his appointment as PACAC boss if he wants to criticise the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), denied the allegations that he switched to Jonathan’s camp because Buhari lost the 2011 election. He added that he chose to support Jonathan ahead of Buhari because of the promise by the former president to implement the recommendations of the 2014 national confab.

“I just read Professor Sagay’s vituperations now and he told some half-truths and outright lies against my person. First of all, I don’t know whether it is old age when he said that I wrote a book for the PDP. He should bring out a copy of the book”.

“He also said I demonstrated for the PDP. I want to him to state where the events took place and I participated for PDP. I have never been a member of PDP in my life. I have never campaigned for the PDP. In 2014, preparatory to the 2015 election, yes I supported former president, Goodluck Jonathan on the basis of his promise to implement the outcome of the 2014 national conference”.

“If I have that situation again tomorrow, where I have a candidate that says I will restructure Nigeria and another that is keeping silent about it, I will support the candidate that says I will restructure Nigeria. The restructuring I was talking about during the 2015 elections, that is where the country is today”.

“It was on the basis of that restructuring that I worked for President Buhari during the 2011 elections. Go and look at the manifesto of the Buhari/Bakare campaign. The first item on their manifesto is restructuring of the Nigerian federation. That was the basis on which I worked for General Buhari in 2011’.

“I worked for General Buhari in 2011 free of charge. I didn’t collect any money or salary from him. He is alive. Although, he gave me a gift at the end of the election, I will not deny that but I never told him ‘this is how much you will pay me’. I never received any salary throughout the period I worked for him” he said.

Ayo OpadokunA former Secretary- General of Afenifere and National Coordinator of the Coalition of Democrats for Electoral Reform, CODER, Ayo Opadokun, at the weekend lashed out at the National Publicity Secretary of pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, for saying he (Odumakin) did not join Afenifere through him.

Describing Odumakin as an ‘inveterate ingrate,’ Opadokun also said God used him and the former governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, to save Odumakin’s life when he had an attack on his left hand after visiting a parcel of land he bought alongside his wife, Joe.


According to Opadokun, he decided to take him to Tinubu for help after Odumakin’s wife, Joe, complained to him that her husband’s condition was deteriorating, adding that Tinubu provided cash and other necessary things for Odumakin to go to India where a surgery was successfully carried out on the hand.

“You can also confirm from the wife if I lied on this. Immediately, she came in, Governor Tinubu invited his Commissioner for Health and his Commissioner for Finance to go and do whatever they had to do to get both Odumakin and his wife visa and other necessary things needed for them to visit India. I was told by the magnetherapist that they will spend nothing less than N2 million for the whole treatment.”
