"Knocking": The Untold Story of Jehovah's Witnesses
Most Americans are unaware of the positive role Jehovah's Witnesses have played in securing basic civil liberties for all Americans — long before the beginning of the Civil Rights Movement. Furthermore, many people have been misled by myths and untruths which abound about this often maligned Christian religious group.
However, this week, the door will open on nationwide television to reveal how you have personally benefited from the work of Jehovah's Witnesses, whether or not you have ever welcomed them into to your home.
On Tuesday, May 22, 2007 * , the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) in the USA will nationally broadcast an award-winning documentary about Jehovah's Witnesses entitled KNOCKING, part of PBS's Independent Lens series. This film reveals the myths about Witnesses versus the realities, their beliefs and practices, their ministry, and the positive impact Jehovah's Witnesses have had on the lives of every American, setting a legal precedents which are now being pursued by Jehovah's Witnesses in other parts of the world.
None of the documentary's creators are Jehovah's Witnesses. Yet the film is a fairly accurate portrayal of who they are and how they live.
It is fitting that this film be be broadcast on the non-commercial television venue that is PBS, since the work of Jehovah's Witnesses is truly non-profit. I am hoping that this documentary will help to open the eyes, the minds, and the hearts of misinformed people all across the country, and later, perhaps, even around the world.
*[Update: Now that the 5/22/2007 premiere has aired, keep an eye out for re-broadcasts of KNOCKING on your local PBS station. Check out the link at www.pbs.org/whatson/ . After you plug in your zip code, search for the program series
Independent Lens. Searching for the word 'knocking' may or may not yield results, so if it doesn't, go back to looking for the series name.
You can search at least 2 weeks in advance of the air date at , and you may sign up for one-time email reminder(s) for when the show will be airing. If you have multiple PBS stations locations in your area, or if you have a larger selection on cable or satellite TV, you'll want to be sure to check all the stations at your disposal.
If there are no re-broadcasts listed, contact your local PBS station and tell them you'd like another opportunity to see this program. ]
