Fashion is a form of wearable artwork. For Nebraska's sesquicentennial the Dawson County Historical Society and Museum put together a special exhibit honoring some of the state's most iconic fashions and the stylish women who wore them.

As guests step into this exhibit, it is evident styles have evolved but women's love of fashion has remained a constant.

The chronological display begins with the corset waists and leg–o–mutton sleeves.

We meet Gertrude, the owner of a high collar dress who passed away only year after the displayed photo was taken.

"We have a hobble skirt dress over here that is absolutely gorgeous," said the museum director, Crystal Werger. "Probably my next favorite is the 1920s outfit over here that has the jacket that goes with it in the yellow."

The tour continues through the thirties with knit sweater dresses, it features fifties party dresses, bright and colorful sixties and eighties designs, and finishes in modern times with outfits from local boutiques.

While guests admire the decades of fashion, they are encouraged to grab a pamphlet.

"It goes through the years and it explains the outfits and the trends and the styles of that time period," said Werger. "So, when you come and see the exhibit, you really want to grab the pamphlet that goes with it because it's also all of the research that we did on the dresses and on the people who wore the dresses as well"
