Ecommerce in Nigeria has witnessed significant growth in recent years, and has become one of the biggest industries in the country.

While players in the industry are on the rise, with a number of big players dominating the space, classifieds platform, Yakata.com.ng has made an entry to give them a run for their money and disrupt the ecommerce market.

With an aim to be No. 1 online classifieds site in Nigeria, the platform enables Nigerians to buy or sell anything, anywhere and anytime. From mobile phones, to electronics, real estate, fashion items, jobs, health/beauty, home/furniture, and a host of others, buyers simply search by categories and connect with sellers, who are able to post their ads for free.

According to the founder, Jesse Yusufu “our aim is to empower every person in Nigeria to independently connect with buyers and sellers online. We care about you — and the transactions that bring you closer to your dreams. Want to buy your first car? We’re here for you. Want to sell commercial property to buy your dream home? We’re here for you. Whatever job you’ve got, we promise to get it done. Our goal is to help our community of buyers and sellers address their needs in the simplest and fastest way. We do this by listening to our community, fostering innovation and keeping the platform simple”.

Yakata plans to take on the market by solving the issue of trust, which has for long been one of the problems facing the online marketplace. There have been stories of people falling into the hands of scammers who pretend to be buyers or sellers. So, it’s usually a challenging process, as it’s difficult for buyers to detect a seller whose aim is to swindle people of their money.

In the words of the founder, “trust and security are what is lacking in most of the online classified ads sites in Nigeria, and we intend to bring trust into the online marketplace”.

Through a number of security measures put in place, including verification of sellers and all items put up for sale, the 100% Nigerian platform enables buyers and sellers to shop more securely.

With how competitive the ecommerce space has gotten, Yakata’s attempt at making it easier for Nigerians to shop more securely by tackling security in the online marketplace, would sure set it apart and make it a household name in no distant time.
