As captains of their respective countries, the top two vote-getters for the prize each selected a club team-mate to win the prestigious award Lionel Messi chose Luis Suarez for the 2016-17 Best FIFA Men's Player award, while eventual winner Cristiano Ronaldo picked Luka Modric to win the prize.
