News We Won’t Hold National Convention This Year – APC by Celcius: 7:02am On Oct 26, 2017
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has disclosed that the party’s mid-term convention will not hold this year.

The mid-term convention, which should have been held earlier this year, has been postponed till 2018.

The party’s constitution provides for a mid-term convention.

Thus the decision by the Chief John Odigie-Oyegun led National Working Committee (NWC) to postpone the convention may have unsettled members of the party who had looked forward to it.

The APC constitution in Article 25 (A)(i) states: “The national convention of the party shall be held once in two years at a date, venue, and time to be recommended by the National Working Committee and approved by the National Executive Committee, subject to the giving of the statutory notices to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and at least fourteen days notice given to members eligible to attend.”

Also, the constitution provides that “the National Executive Committee may summon an emergency national convention at any time provided at least seven days notice of the meeting shall be given to all members eligible to attend.”

Incidentally, the party has been unable to constitute its national caucus and board of trustees (BoT) since it came to power in the last two years.

Also, it has not been able to hold a single National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting since 2015.

These acts violate the constitutional provisions of the party.

The party has insisted that it would still go ahead with the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting slated for October 31 this year.

The lifespan of the current APC National Working Committee (NWC) is expected to end by June 2018.

Speaking with newsmen, in a short interview, on Wednesday, National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Bolaji Abdullahi, assured that the expected NEC meeting would be a fruitful one.

He said: “I can tell you that the convention is not going to take place until the first quarter of next year.

“There will not be any implosion or explosion because we are not going to invite Boko Haram to the convention.

“Let me emphasise that we have not decided on the date of the convention because we have to hold NEC meeting that will agree on a date and agenda for the convention.”

Reacting to media reports that about 17 APC governors were plotting the national chairman’s removal, Abdullahi said, “When you talk of 17 governors planning to impeach our national chairman, it is just a newspaper report people are reacting to.

“We have come out to dismiss such reports, telling Nigerians that we are not aware of the 17 governors referred to.

“We made it clear that there would not have been anything like that because they would have expressed such displeasure, whether against the party or chairman, in particular, during the series of meetings we have had with them.

“I was opportune to attend all the meetings and there has never been anytime any of them stood up to say that they are not happy with him.

“We are preparing for the NEC meeting next week, October 31, preceded by caucus meeting and we are very confident of having fruitful meetings, but let me emphasis that there is nothing like governors working against anybody.”

The albatross the APC have meshed itself will be very difficult to come out from. From the intraparty wrangglings to failure to provide purposeful leadership at all strata of leadership and to the numerous scandals the executive have got itself into esp in recent times are all pointers that-it's now RIP to this most useless political party ever seen.

APC is not really a Party. They have offered and conceded thatvitvis a coalition.

Well, a coalition can conspire and secure power, but operating it and sustaining it is another ball game.

APC, we are watching

Who cares!!! If they like they can postpone the national convention till 2025 Na their biz. All we want is for them to use the remaining time they have from now till 2019 to clean up this mess they put us into or their chances of winning in the next electiom will be reduced to zero.

If APC dare hold their convention, almost all the APC Governors, Senators and House of Rep members will stage a walk out of the convention to protest the hijacking of the Party by Buhari and his cabal
