The Technical University Ibadan (Tech-U) is one of the many products of Public-Private-Partnerships (PPPs) struck by the Governor Abiola Ajimobi administration, in this case, with the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Here are 10 quick facts and updates about this already thriving partnership:

1. The Tech-U Ibadan is the first technical university in Nigeria and West and Central Africa. It is located over a million sq m of land adjacent to the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

2. The University is taking off with two faculties — Faculty Technology and Engineering and Faculty of Natural Sciences.

3. The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved 15 programmes for the commencement of academic activities with full accreditation - some of these courses include: Microbiology, Industrial Chemistry, Physics with Electronics, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Mathematics, and Statistics, Agricultural Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Food Science and Technology, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, and Petroleum Engineering.

4. The University is fully ready for academic activities with first-rate teaching and experienced non-teaching staff in place to begin the first academic session.

5. The first set of students have been admitted into the various accredited academic programmes for the 2017/2018 session. They were admitted mainly on merit.

6. A date for the University’s first, historic matriculation programme will be announced soon.

7. Modern classrooms fitted with air-conditioners, an expansive 500-seater e-library, and fully furnished laboratories are already in place to kick-start full academic activities by November.

8. Also, a well-secured, fully functional, and student-friendly hostel is in place to give the new students memorable learning experiences.

9. The vision of the Technical University is restated as the desire to effectively combat the unrelenting scourge of youth unemployment in Nigeria and produce top-notch graduates whose learning would positively improve the human condition, not only in Nigeria, but also in Africa and the rest of the world.
