UK, Nigeria Prisoners’ Transfer Bill Before N’Assembly by otawa: 9:55am On Mar 17, 2010
Federal Government yesterday attributed the delay in the prisoners’ transfer deal between Nigeria and the United Kingdom to the non passage of the Prisoners’ Transfer Bill before the National Assembly.

It also said a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) would be signed between the two countries next month by which time the bill would have been passed.

Seriki maintained that the bill was designed in a way that would facilitate the transfer of prisoners by consent and not compulsion on the part of both governments and the prisoners alike

"We have made tremendous progress. We have fast-tracked what should be done and the bill is before the National Assembly and has passed second reading, to be read a third time after which it becomes law", he said.
Earlier, British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Bob Dewar, said the delegation was in Nigeria to assess the migration cooperation agreement between the two countries as well as take stock of other migration challenges between the two nations.

This is one BILL that should be killed.

Nigeria should not sign this PACT.  It is a deception, they will simply depot EVERYONE to Nigeria!

Nothing in Nigeria is getting better. Our prisoners in UK should remain there. We should not let Brits bully us into this!

The crime was committed in UK, sentence should be done there too.

Nigeria prisons already over crowded. Let UK also suffer a bit of what they made us went through from evil of Lugard since 1914.

but the bill says prisoners can only be transferred by consent. So its the prisoners choice whether to serve their terms in UK or Nigeria. You've got nothing to worry about

That exactly the joker!

who is going to verify that consent? Nigerian High Commission in UK?

what makes a prisoner?

The people in Nigeria already had enough problems to handle, now they want to add 'prisoners' from UK on top.

then why did they get themselves in prison in the first place? Keep to the straight path and stay far away from jail
