The President General of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat of Nigeria, Dr. Moshood Adenrele Fashola, has said if the division of Nigeria is what will solve the restiveness and increasing spate of killings in the country, the Federal Government should decentralize the country.

The head of the strong Islamic group, who addressed a press briefing in Lagos on Wednesday to herald the group’s 6th anniversary, said the delay in convening a sovereign national conference to negotiate a true federalism for the country was responsible for the woes and calamity happening in the country.

According to him, “If decentralization is an option to save Nigeria from the present disintegration it is good for everybody.
“What we have right now is a forced marriage of different ethnic nationalities. Like Chief Obafemi Awolowo said earlier in his book, Nigeria is a mere geographical expression .

“I am not opposed to a sovereign national conference. We can negotiate Nigeria. The unfortunate thing in this country is that we do not have virtuous leaders to take the country to the next level.” He blamed the recent Jos crisis on bad governance in the country, adding that if the country had put in place strong security measures it would have been difficult for people to go about killing people at will. Fashola, remarked that Nigeria was gradually tilting towards disintegration, adding that the country urgently required good leadership to stir it away from the massive rock awaiting to rock it.

He lamented that those presently steering the ship of the state were not true representatives of the people, saying that was why they had remained insensitive to the plight of the people they claimed to govern.
“Nigerians are not divided by religion .We are peaceful people. Our problem is politics and polarization of ethnic groups by partisan politics. Politics has come to divide us.We should not use politics to divide ourselves. Rather we should give our leaders mandate on how we want to be governed,” he added.

The Ahmadiyya leader blamed entrenchment of corruption in the country on the bad system of not allowing people to chose their leaders, saying the virus of God-fatherism must be eradicated to stop the scourge.

The Igbo Youth Movement (IYM) yesterday said the advice by Libyan Leader, Muammar Gadaffi, for Nigeria to be split as a way out of the incessant blood shedding in the country has again brought to light the need for a constitutional conference.

The movement, while describing Gaddafi’s view as instructive and reflective of global opinion on the future of Nigeria, said rather than people shouting him down or calling the Libyan leader names, the nation should take urgent steps to convoke a sovereign national conference to discover new ways of governing the country.

In a statement signed by its President, Evang. Elliot Uko, the IYM noted that even the United States of America had a decade ago, in a report of a study, said that Nigeria would disintegrate in 15 years time and they were shouted down, yet the country had not been better ever since.

The statement reads in part, “The recent call by the Libyan Leader that Nigeria should split along religious line is instructive and reflective of global opinion on the future of Nigeria in chat rooms all over the world. That he had the courage to say it out does not mean that he is alone. Shouting him down won’t help us.
“About a decade ago the United States of America released the report of a study that gave Nigeria a maximum of 15 years before disintegrating, we shouted them down too. But incidentally, everything is being done to destroy Nigeria, first by our heartless politicians, then by our warriors who specialize only in slaughtering innocent women and children in cold blood.

“Rather than call President Ghaddafi names, we should take urgent steps to convoke a sovereign national conference in order to discover new ways of governing our great country so that Nigeria could successfully face the internal and external challenges of the new millennium.” Furthermore, the IYM stressed that only return to six regions and true federalism would bring back sanity in the country and put Nigeria on the path of progress.

It, therefore, pleaded with Nigerian leaders to immediately put in progress the mechanism for restructuring Nigeria through a national conference, adding that “time is running out.” “Only reverting to six regions and true federalism and firm punishment for acts of impunity will restore sanity and finally put this great nation on the path of progress. This unwieldy structure only encourages corruption, brigandage and lack of national pride.

“Those who sowed the seeds of genocide in Nigeria decades ago are now in their 70s and 80s but their fruits are now part of our national culture today, simply because they got away with genocide in the 1950s and 1960s.”

Then, because of Yoruba mighty you are doing Shakara to Hausa North. Thank God from seperating us from you with River Benue, so that when you cry fowl of Hausa atrocity we would never hear your cries. I would be like Bleep the other side of the river benue.
