AGONY OF NIGERIAN CORPERS
They call it clarions call, a well designated name to convince parents to allow their graduate children partake in the National Youth Service. In principle, the scheme was to promote unity in diversity and expose graduates of different ethnic groups to different cultures but in reality its a deliberate attempt to make graduates have prisoners experience.
Cases of insecurity of corps members are stale, graduates are vulnerable to series of brutal attack in some part of the country. Harassment, intimidation and Sufferness sums up the agony of men in servitude Khaki . And that raise a priority question on the part of Federal Government as regards the objectives of NYSC.
Issues of Corps members welfare continue to open up argument for or against scrapping off NYSC scheme in totality. Maybe, those who capitalize on the scheme for ill gotten wealth will continue to propagate the paper truth and cook up lies for the publics.
A hunger call should be the most appropriate. The omen was obviously not fascinating from camp, 21 days of starvation for those whose parents could not afford more than a transport fare. Who's to blame? the state coordinators , camp directors or the DG NYSC Or the Government for its laissez faire attitudes and insensitivity towards what goes on with Corps members.
They Claims to have once been in our shoe, but there is a big distinction between their generation and our generation. We are at the receiving ends for greediness of leaders, and politics of "money orphans". Instead of turning the back of their late fathers , they turn nation's wealth to victims of mass burial in their homes and preserved sites expecting more returns at the expense of disadvantaged majority.
October is 31 days in lunar calendar. In corps members Calendar it's now 36days, and expectedly may run to 40days if they refuse to pay Alawee. And come to think of it, if a week delay of Corps members Allowance could be so damaging and devastating , what happens to civil servants they are owing Above 5 months Salaries in some states in the country and pensioners still waiting for their graduate after 2years of retirement.
They expect us to lift our nation high when the nation obviously has nothing to offer us than vague pessimism and unappreciable potentials. Its a triple blow for corps members serving in non paying states, non paying PPA with no accommodation.
If graduates are not appreciated, what hopes for the future of the country. I can see Nigeria becoming a deserted country . Lets all fight for escape route with passion and soon Nigeria will become history in our heart.
